I'll bet that crane was bolted to the bed only, not the frame.

Bruce

I "re-looked" at it larger on YouTube. Now it looks like an engine hoist just strapped into the truck. At first I thought it was HF's truck bed crane.

That's my thought. If it were bolted, they could have just swiveled it out and into the back of the truck.

Again, total lack of understanding of the most basic engineering principles. As an engineer, I realize I take things for granted in this regard. My wife's suggestions for honey-do projects are often a reminder that some of us are blessed with more heart than critical thinking ability.

Oh man, probably a lot of us here on this site in that boat.

I hate when mine suggests any project of a structural nature and I just crinnnnnge.... honey, let me think about how to best accomplish your dreams there.

Some misguided people actually lower pickups (usually minitrucks) for so-called aesthetic purposes. which, of course, severely compromises their clearance, and the article indicated that it was a private crossing, so it could have been a lot less navigable than the ones that we're accustomed to seeing on public roads.

Not saying that's what happened, just positing a couple possible explanations.

There used to be a guy who ran around in a 1980s Chevy 3500 CCLB DRW pickup that was setup with airbags ( I assume it was airbags at least). He could just about lay the frame rails on the ground.

They had a guy break out of jail in town. Stole a truck and proceeded to drive through a ditch, up a 4ft incline and hang the truck dead center on the train tracks. Balanced on the frame with front and rear tires off the ground.

Luckily it was a feeder track to reach some businesses and not the main line across the road

Also conveniently the truck was stolen from a local repair shop/ towing company so after the police were done, they backed up to the tracks with the roll back and snatched it off.

Guy then tried car jacking a little old lady driven a Volkswagen beetle. Lady smoked him with her car :D
