A 22 sub sonic shot from a rifle is perfect for such jobs. Slamming the car door is louder.
Hey I posed the question to my 85 year old dolphin loving neighbor on his porch this afternoon over a beer before his 'tree hugging' wife came out with crackers and cheese. He didn't say anything but he did extend his pointer finger and cocked his thumb without a smile. I did! :D

This is plan B though...

22 shorts make short work of a rabbit.

To be honest, i'd careless about a brown spot in the lawn, but then i don't have a lawn. :)
I know... it is a silly of me. I have an acre of grass in various states of beauty, but it is just this one little spot and the rabbit that looks at me like it is his (or her) spot! It is not quite Bill Murray in Caddyshack but... I have ruled out dynamite though.

Tie a FERRET to a stake out there for a night or two. ;)

I've taken out quite a few rabbits with just my slingshot and heavy marbles.

Aguila Super Colibre 22 ammo out of a rifle makes almost zero noise at all. I've shot them from my Contender carbine, and the only thing you can hear is the "clack" of the hammer fall. Mrs. Slim was in the next room reading her book once, and I shot a pest out the open door, she didn't even realize I'd done it. That was when we lived inside city limits.

Now that we live in a rural area, it's whatever's handy at the time. 22 rifle or pistol, or 12 ga shotgun, either way nuisance pests are quickly dispatched.

I grabbed my ar15 when we had a rabbit keep coming into our garage and destroy various items including garage door wiring. It was either that or a 9mm and the rabbit was a good 50 yards after scurrying away. That woke the neighborhood. We live in sort of a valley and it echoed for what seemed like an eternity. I then put in the .22 conversion to take care of his brother a day later. I didn't get any calls from concerned neighbors with the .22.
