Kubota B3200
I searched the forum but couldn't find the answer.....

I've got a 350 foot long gravel driveway that I want to maintain. From everything I've read her on TBN I want a land plane rather than a box blade. My driveway is relatively flat so I won't be going up or down any steep hills.

The B3200 is rated at 32hp. I'm not sure if I should go with a 60 inch land plane or a 72 inch model. The 72 inch models list themselves as being intended for 22 to 50 hp tractors. I fit within that profile but manufacturer's claims are usually different from real world. Will the B3200 handle a 72 inch land plane OK or should I opt for the 60 inch? Hopefully there's some B3200 owners who have done this already.

Thanks

I think your would be fine with the 72

I bought a 72". And then realized (duh) that my road, for the most part is 10 ft wide. Grading scrapers work best when the right skid is in the ditch and the left skid rides in the middle of the crown of the road. If it doesn't, you'll be grading off the top of your crown.

I sold my 72" and bought a 60". Took a $500 hit.

Are your rear tires loaded? If so, I would say 72". I'm basing this off of a box blade I use with my B3200

Hp pulling a landplane does not mean as much as heft/traction. And if you will be using it on level ground. A 6' landplane full of dirt, pulls very hard... especially if your tires are on loose stuff, too. A LP also does not have to be any wider that half the width of the road you are working, as the above post states. If you are just going to pull it up/down the road fairly empty, and not work it, then get the wider one. But if you are going to work it deep to take out potholes, get the narrowest one that will do near half your width. Even one that will only do a third of your width that you can actually pull full of gravel is better than one that will do half the width, but your tractor is too light to work it correctly.

If I recall my Land Pride LPGS is a 60". A bit small for the 72" track on my L4060. The LPGS will make my 40hp 5,000lbs machine grunt pretty hard if it loads up (usually wetter or sticky material). So ya, as with most tractor things it's a weight & traction issue, not a HP issue.
