that's a lot of rain...
am waiting to hear stories of Mississippi River flooding.
Always wanted to live near the water, but not in it. Am happy at 32 feet above sea level.

We had some warnings for some of the smaller rivers around here earlier this week. No doubt the Missouri and Illinois will be problems again as well ... all of which eventually end up in the Mississippi. Here at the confluence of three major rivers, Spring flooding is simply a way of life. In the Trenton area, we are 495' above sea level. St. Louis is 466', and the Mississippi River is about 28' deep at STL. When it floods, it can get as deep as 40'. That's a lot of water.

Over the past 20 years or so, it seems everyone has gotten so narrow in their scope that it is indeed almost impossible to find truly unbiased news anymore. Sad, really, considering the incredible glut of information available to even the casual observer. I know it's probably always been like that, but it just seems so brazen now. Discouraging.

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment of the situation, PJ. Back in the days of only three TV stations, the differences in coverage were harder to spot and the journalistic standards were higher as well. Now, anybody with an Internet feed can "publish" anything they want and call it news. And as several recent mistruths by national commentators have shown, I'm not even sure there are such things as journalistic standards any more.:( Reading the news is now a statistical process, where one hopes to gather a large enough sample to be able to detect a trend and is able to settle on that resembling some aspects of truth.

Kyle, is it time to start looking into tornado shelters? That storm sounded like pretty serious business! Glad you and yours came out OK, and hopefully you didn't lose anything out in the yard.

   / Good morning!!!! #73,604
Gone Canadian have you? :D
We are glad there was no tornado, Kyle.

Randy gets the attaboy for catching my aboot. :)

RNG, I hope you have a contracted price on your van. Otherwise you'll be paying for their ________.

67°F and no rain. See some sun peeking thru

No firm plans for the day. Maybe just wing it and see what makes the wife happy.

Prayers for all

Be safe
Have a great day

I do, Kyle, but at this point, it's not about the money. The leopard's not going to change his spots, and this guy'll never have his act together enough to finish this project. I just want the van back so I can get it done, and really don't care if I have to spend some more money to make it happen. Life's too short to waste time with someone like this, and one way or another, that's gonna stop in three weeks.

It’s very difficult to get real news anymore, anywhere.

Very true. Seems more and more what gets reported as news is just something that presents as favoring a viewpoint. I guess the import thing is to fill the time slot. Lately, one of our local stations seemed to think it was important to tell us who got sent to jail. Sadly, most good news goes under reported unless it makes a good fluff piece. We often get an interesting perspective on national/world news in that all the major “6 o’clock” venues are prerecorded and a bit old by the time we see them and often their reports have been overcome by real time events reported in real time on the internet.

Kyle, glad to hear it was a non event.

I'm back from the North Bay shopping trip, and a trip to the PO to get the parcel that came from the West coast by way of Ottawa, ON (where it didn't need to go as Ottawa is 4 hours northeast of Toronto and I am 3.5 hours north of Toronto) Canada Post....What a cluster f... Another Federal Corporation.

Kind of like when an airline flies you from St. Louis to Dallas ... via Chicago. :confused3:

Had a pleasant talk with my buddy that runs the little motorcycle custom shop in town, and picked up some ebay selling tips. We also talked about the perceived need to bring younger people into the BMW clubs to carry on the tradition. Attendance at events has been falling for years, I think largely because people spend their time online instead of by attending events face-to-face with people of like mind. Fewer people get an exposure to the industrial arts as part of their education as well, so have no idea that there are people in clubs out there that can show them how to do their own maintenance. Most riders today know little more than where the key goes and how to put gasoline into the thing when it runs dry. They carry a card with an 800 number imprinted on it to use if they need the machine hauled into the dealer. Just read that last bit back, and today's motorcycles don't have key slots anymore, and will start with a button push if you have the fob in your pocket somewhere. Should have said "should start", as the other day another friend of mine discovered that the battery in his fob had died when he pulled his newest Harley out of the garage where it had been stored all winter. He wasn't going anywhere until he spent enough time reading his owners manual to discover the bypass starting technique and the secret code it required.

Two boxes of parts were waiting for me when I got home yesterday, so it'll be another hopefully pleasant day out in the garage. The weather we're having for the next week will sure help.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

Yea, had the key fob on mine bite me once so far. Switched riding jackets in the garage next to the bike, took off for about a 30 mile ride got were I was headed shut down and went in got my business done back out to the bike and no start, realized what I had done and thought dang I'm sure glad I keep the spare in the travel trunk opened up got the spare and looked for the battery to install into it couldn't find the battery, fellow rider went to get me a battery about half an hour later as he's pulling up I'm just getting it started following the manual and the over ride procedure, which reminds me it's time to pick up fresh batteries for them for this year, hopefully another 2-3 weeks and I'll be able to get her out :dance1::drink:

Without comment in any way, do you have a favorite news source? Way too political to talk in depth about, but interesting.

"I used to be a real news junkie. I'd always search as many sources as I could find, from newspapers to magazines to radio and television, and eventually the vast internet. Discouraging."- PJS

I have no favorite news source anymore. I was a news junkie like PJS and have come to the same conclusions. All the news agencies and especially the cable news networks spin the news as dictated by their funding sources' political leanings and their following viewership. It's all a financially driven rating game. My cynicism about health care has evolved from professional, personal and family experiences. I filed complaints about the care my Mother and Father received by both hospital and longterm care providers.

The day started off cloudy and temperatures where in the mid 30F's; now it is drizzling and temperatures are in the low 40F's. This weather is knocking down the snowpack here- it's ~6" in the open and close to 12" in the woods. This place due to its location is one of the few places around here that still has snow on the ground.

This weather matches my mood today. I/We missed out on another Saint Bernard rescue, but I am happy for the dog and his new owners. I am not familiar with the "rescue process" nor comfortable with Facebook which does not help connecting with the different FB St. B. rescue sites. There are now a few other people helping us look; ideally a bonded pair rescue, but we may end up going to a breeder. :(

Ed- I am glad the funeral went "ok." I am glad that it was well attended. I hope that all is well with you, your wife, and family. Hang in there.

Kyle- I am glad the storm missed you and your family.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

Good answer on the news source, and reality as we know it today.

77 now with high thin clouds occasionally, I am not going to like it cooling off again.
And whoever made fun of my legs earlier is just jealous! LOL

Going to put these wheels on the Monte Carlo, found a set with 600 miles, they are discontinued but my favorites. grandam1.jpg cropped (Medium).jpg

Randy- When Al Jazeera(sp?)/USA seemed to have the most balanced reporting  on that missing commercial airline I gave up on news almost completely. Honestly there a few, very few, commentators on each of the news agencies that I can briefly tolerate. I watch the local news. The evening national "news" is background noise. I look forward to the nightly "Perry Mason" reruns.

I like the wheels. Good luck with Ellen tonight.

I think I am more up to date. Matlock and Murder She Wrote. Everything we watch on TV is reruns. No morning or evening news. Mornings we listen to Light Rock on Echo.
Randy News ‘eh’.

Was running to the grocery store about 3:00 and noticed the inspection sticker had a 3 on it. With every thing going on I had missed it. Have free inspections at the dealer but went to a local shop and ten min later had my new sticker. :) If the school had not been closed for Easter I would have been sunk, he drives a bus. Have a good evening. Ed

Ron- We watch TV reruns more than the current garbage now seen on TV which we will not watch.. We watch the cooking, travel, history, science/natural history programming channels, and old movies especially the B&W SciFi and Humphrey Bogart movies. I watch the military and UFO "conspiracy" channels after Wifey goes to bed.

Better news on the Saint Bernard rescue front now that I talked directly to one of the rescue operation directors who called me this PM about her operations and dog possibilities. My confusion was real, but I am not completely at fault. Now I have a better understanding of the "process." I may have a dog delivered by this program through this program.
