"..... I'm really working on losing that last 20 pounds. That in itself should help a variety of things, particularly being pear shaped."- Daugen

I resemble that remark.

It's not easy.

Don- Now I am getting confused (more than normal). I get my A1C tests following a 12 hour fast (including coffee). I can see the differences between the insulin levels and sugar levels, but wouldn't fasting reveal essentially similar data between the two tests? I do not think that I have had a fasting insulin level test in recent memory.

I don't really know. We were just told that insulin levels were more indicative of the severity of diabetes than the blood glucose levels. Something to ask the doctor about, I guess.

The beet slices came out ok just a little burnt but like chips, crunchy.

Randy, One of the cardiologist in the heart study I'm in in Houston explains how so many of his fist time patients used the same words you used about not having a problem with cholesterol. The blood is tested for Cholesterol levels at FASTING. He explained and had charts of the time frame that it take dietary cholesterol to get out of the blood stream and your blood clears up. It takes about 4-5 hours. So if you eat a meal with cholesterol and 4-5 hours later have another and the another you are keeping your blood loaded with cholesterol. However when you take a blood test after 8-12 hours of fasting the cholesterol level is back down. Go eat a bacon hamburger and test your blood. That's the level your arteries are exposed to daily.

You are absolutely correct on Diabetes, FAT is the problem not sugar.

The best test for diabetes type II is not a blood sugar test, but an insulin test. Diabetes Type II is not a blood sugar problem. It is normal to have high blood sugar after a meal, but insulin enters the cellular receptors and allows the sugar to enter the cell. In diabetes II, saturated fat clogs the insulin receptors so insulin stays in the blood stream and sugar can't enter the cells. Therefore, the best blood test for diabetes is the insulin test not the blood sugar test.

My A1c is getting down to where I want it, about 6 now, my triglycerides consistently run 140ish, Hdl about 80-85 and ldl 55-65. I have never had high cholesterol in my life, neither has my mom, both my brothers take/took statins and dad died of a heart attack at 41. My mom will 95 next month.Have fought the BP monster in the past, but it痴 been steady at around 110-120x60 for about 10 months, since I lost the weight. Genetics count too.;)

I had it done about 15 years ago, if it痴 the same one.

Don- Thanks for this information.

I like snakes and like to have them around the property. We get rat snakes here as well, but quite a bit smaller. One of my "favorite" species. They can put on a decent "show" The biggest one that I've seen around here was ~2'. I think a hawk go that one. :( They are just as aggressive, stinky, and rattlesnake-like as the "Big Guys.". I have had them (and probably still do have them) over-winter in our cellar. They really like it when it is warm down there. I leave them alone- they are good mousers. Their bite also really hurts if they catch you before you catch them  (BTDT) Ratsnake: 1 JB: 0 :embarrassed:

I/We should really start eating beets. I have struggled with beets since I was a little kid and was force-fed with the expected resultant purple "discharge."

RNG did you get the
iRobot Roomba 805 Vacuum Cleaning Robot
I see it's on sale at Costco now.
$329.99 After $50 OFF

Thanks for the heads up, Don. I got the 980. I figured if the most advanced model wasn't capable of cleaning well, I'd just send it back. If I'd have opted for a different model, I'd still be wondering and that would have meant a return and replace cycle. I also wanted the WiFi connectivity and Cleaning Map function, which lets me see where and when the Roomba cleaned. Here's an example:
Image-1.jpg

Green shows the places it cleaned, white where it missed. There's a tiny home icon at top center to show where the docking station is located (not sure why there are two), and the red "!" is where it got stuck under the coat tree. It ran for about four and a half hours to cover that much area. I'm not sure if that's straight running time or if it includes one 90 minute recharge cycle.

There's a video camera on it, too, but I'm still trying to figure out how to access the images. There's prolly an app for that...:confused2:

boy I'm envious, my beets look like they aren't going to make it at all.....

Cholesterol was 144 total, 40 HDL,88 LDL, 80 triglycerides (it really would be nice if they gave better explanations for these...and yes I know I can look them up)

Don't feel bad about your beet crop. The one we sliced and air fried to beet chips was the ONLY ONE we harvested out of four rows. ??

The bottom line on the cholesterol levels is to determine risk of plaque buildup. Really just skip those and do the test that shows the actual plaque instead of the risk. Most times they go hand in hand but not always and you still don't know to what extent your arteries are in danger. A CT scan will detect buildup at a moderate level, no test will detect at an early level. The CT scan can be had for $49 to $150. Hospitals usually run specials around holidays if insurance does not cover it. Here is a list of the CT Test results compared to a Stress Test results and when at what stage they detect problems with plaque buildup.

Ask for a coronary artery calcium scan (CACS)

I saw the 805 on email I got from Costco. I went to iRobot site and they don’t show the 805. Maybe it’s been discontinued and Costco is selling them out? Does iRobot support their discontinued models well? We’ve been looking into them for all our wood floors at the Ramch and Richmond house.

You guys reminded me, I need to go see the doc. I need to take a fasting blood work, then talk to the doc about drug scripts.
