Need to fill bird feeder again today. I started out with 200 lbs last October. Now down to last 20lbs. Been refilling the one 3 gallon feeder every 3 days since Christmas. Mostly feed Chickadees and sparrows. Blue Jays, Woodpeckers, Cardinals and Doves also feed. Squirrels cannot get to feeder. But do feed on the ground. 2 or 3 deer stop by at night. They also feed off the ground. Anyone else feeding a large amount of bird seed?
Need add to my list of thing to do today. Buy more bird seed. Winter is not 1/2 over yet.
Picture was taken in October.

I am living your post as well. We also get a lot of slate backed juncoes. I do have Hairy, Downy, and Red Bellied woodpeckers coming to the suet. Pileated woodpeckers are still feeding on the native fruits still hanging around here.

I do not think about the amount of birdseed I have already purchased; at least 4 40# bags of mixed and black oil sunflower seed so far. I keep a couple of #'s of suet in the freezer. I go through a lot of suet.

Parboil something to go in the smoker? NO WAY! I think there are laws to keep people from doing that.

Sounds like they foil over their meat to get it cooked quicker and only get smoke on it for a short time for a little smoke flavor. Sounds like tourist food.

Reading your post I think your explanation is solid about the brisket. No smoke flavor, no real crust no smoke band/rind. Really bland. I/We have been driving by that place for years and never tried it until now. The sides were really good, but the brisket and "ribs" were not. We won't be back. It is a "touristy" trap kind of place (UMass/Amherst) is nearby.

I have yet to make a decent brisket, but I do make a really decent rib. I jerk the ribs and refrigerate covered overnight. I smoke them (hickory wood in a Big Green Egg) for ~4 hours @ ~200F, flip and mop every 30 minutes till they are ready. I make my own rub and mop and barbecue sauces.

Bird- There are only a few really decent barbecue joints around here. Within an 1 to 1.5 hour drive there are 3 that we have found so far. 1 in NY and 2 in CT. Nothing found so far in MA. There is one place in Holyoke that we need to check out.

18F, calm and clear this AM. I am in my normal "routine" so far. I am thinking about making a diesel fuel run. I am considering shoveling the roof around the stovepipe flashing, but it will probably be gone w/i the pending "heat wave."

"......... One day things'll settle back down and you'll be able to start sleeping again like you used to. But for now, just take it as it goes and know it's not forever."- RNG

Great advise. Until one becomes one themselves no one really understands the world of a "primary care giver." RIP you are inducted into my "Heroes List" as is anyone else who has BTDT. Hang in there.

The temperature is at 39* and the wind is blowing at about 15-20 mph. Yesterday was really nice it got up to the low 60's. They have a winter storm warning out from 6 pm tonight tell 5 am Sunday. We might get up to 10 inches. I think this is the first storm warning of the season. Today is going to be windy and in the low 40's.

I have a home make dock for my flatbed trailer that is out by my gate. Last night I had to go up and put some pellets in a stove for a neighbor that is out of town. It only took about 20 minutes. I still have some old snow on the ground. When I came back I could see tracks that had backed up to the dock. It looks like that they backed off the main road and in to the dock and unloaded a 4 wheeler. I came in the house and asked my wife who was here. She said that no one was. I told her about it and she said she didn't see anyone or here any thing.
I don't mind if someone wants to use it but l would like to know about it first. I guess I need a big dog.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

I was brought up in a family of good cooks and during my "Animal House" years I lived with a couple of chefs. I learned from all my teachers. I enjoy cooking. A lot of the foods that I cook are cooked outside in the Big Green Egg. Over the years I have branched out in the regional types and kinds and styles of food cooking. I cook a decent product, but the plate presentation usually sucks. My tastebuds and stomach do not mind.

OK, I think the terminology you are looking for is a "system malfunction" - According to the article under the Facebook pic it said it was being used at the time of the fire to make FF. Since there is an electrical burner element at the top of the machine we could speculate an unspecified electrical short or overheating. Careful examination of the burner and wires to see if there was any arching might reveal the exact cause of the fire. If it has a thermostat it could have malfunctioned or been defective causing the element to overheat and ignite the plastic outer cover. But I still would like to rule out that back left burner by checking the location of the notch on the metal rod on the burned stove control knobs. Also kind of leaning to the overheating because a breaker should have tripped if there was a short, got to check the breaker box also.

They may have poured gasoline on it and lit for all I know, but my terminology fit just fine, if what you were doing was normal and it caught fire anyway, that痴 about as spontaneous as it gets.

Good morning all. Could not sleep so I finely just got up and started catching up on Good morning. I must be reading slower, it takes longer than it used to. 32 now, supposed to go down to 16 and then up to 49. Don't think we will make 16 tonight.

Randy, You are stringing this tractor buying thing out a long time. Just go ahead and buy it! Hope it works out well for you.

Have a good day. Ed

Not me Ed.

I haven't had really good bbq since I left Seminole, Tx., I have had some that was decent, some eatable, and some I'd just as soon not think about.

The closest decent barbecue joint to me in in New Lebanon, NY. An old lady ran the operation for years. The new owners are from MA.

I/We've only eaten our way down the east CONUS coast and sampled the regional foods and the barbecue along the way (and back). There are differences in style and tastes. We like spicy/hot foods, but not those "sweet" rubs and sauces and the "Southern Style" iced tea- sweet enough for a hummingbird.

26F and sunny @ 11:45. High today supposed to hit 35F. Let the melting begin ...

Finally gave up on trying to locate the two other hinge halves after a couple of hours. They're probably here ... somewhere ...

The upside was that I spent some of that time straightening up and organizing the stuff on the storage shelves in the basement utility room.

I broke down and headed over to Home Depot to pick up some replacement hinges.

Unfortunately, I forgot my new wallet and apparently The Depot does not accept Apple Pay ... so I had to head back home, grab the wallet, and then drive back. It's only about 6 miles so not too bad.

Before I got there though, The Woman called and reminded me that the knob/handle/lockset on the front door needed replaced. Can usually get it to latch, problem is not turning/releasing to open the door ... so that will be on the menu once it warms up a little. Also grabbed a couple more 100w equiv. LED bulbs and some blue painters tape while I was there.

Today will get that door hung, maybe throw up a little mud and hopefully start sanding lumber.
