I was thinking about what Looking4new posted and how it impacted on Hawaii's older/geriatric residents.

When the towers were going down 9/11 some of the residents in the secure Alzheimer Unit that I managed started to freak out believing WWII was starting, reliving, .............. or in some cases (sadly restarting).

Memories run deep; and emotional memories are the strongest.

Buppies- It can be a lonely life being a weather geek. No one understands......... no one cares..... and I do not give a :censored:

Well that was easy. Jacked up one side of the RTV, leaving the tire on the ground on the other side, and the rear wheel spun freely. That ain't right.

Pulled the wheel, spun off the nut securing a flange to the axle, and found the splines stripped on the flange.

This isn't my first experience with Kubotas and stripped splines. The last time it happened, I was sent on a wild ride down a steep hill in the tractor, and had to drop the bucket to get it stopped. Maybe I should get rid of this Kubota junk and buy something green before I get killed?

Temp dropping quickly 20 deg now and going to low teens by morning
sounds like an allergic reaction have you tried to take a shot of Benadryl may help
Rip glad you and your wife made it home with out much anxiety, hopefully things will be back to some kind of normal soon
LouNY I have 2 daughters 1 is a good driver the other I still hold my breath and say a prayer whenever i know she is on the road and she has been driving for 10 years
Jbrumberger after 12 years as an EMT/Paramedic transporting Psy patients to a mental health facility followed by 33 years in law enforcement seeing them locked up I agree that the closing of mental health hospitals has put many of the mentally disabled into several categories and on a law enforcement perspective they can be suspects or victims many taken advantage of' many who discontinue taking there meds many homeless. I'm sure that most have heard of Sandy Hook that may have never happened if he was in an institution as his mother had pleaded but there was no where for him to go or someone thought he could function in society. But who's to say I'm sure we all are just a little off

11F and cloudy @ 18:30 ... with a windchill of -2F

Been working out in the garage most of the day, cleaning and straightening up to hopefully get it to the point that we can get the car in.

Between the propane flame-thrower and the kerosene heater it's tolerable ... but I have to come in occasionally to warm my feet up. Now is one of those times.

Got most of wood moved to basement plus sawhorses and other assorted tools.

Have a few more pieces if wood to cut and I have to cut some 1 1/2" ABS pipe for the drain lines. Ought to be able to get that done before I knock off for the day.

The Woman is cooking Mongolian Pork Meatballs or some such thing ... dunno how it's gonna taste but it sure smells good ...

Last year a family here called the police when their developmentally disabled adult child grabbed a knife and took a stab at the father. When the police arrived, he tried it with them and was shot to death. Now the family is throwing the race card (black family, white cop) and has filed a lawsuit against the city. The kid was known to be violent, and shouldn't have been in the home to begin with. But where else was he supposed to go?

First Responders, Military, Law Enforcement, Fire, human/medical service personnel, and supportive operatives as well as primary care givers and families are usually automatic inductees to my "Heroes/Heroines List." DABSGT thank you for your service and sacrifices. Everyone else too. We are all in this (strange trip) together.

RNG- The law enforcement,"race" and "minority" challenges exist everywhere and are exploited everywhere by both sides to their own benefit. It really PMO when I read your post. I see/saw this a lot. The "System" drops their consumers ASAP, usually at "adulthood," and responsibility for care and management fall back on the families (many multi-challenged) or the community at large. Neither really able to take on the challenges.

One reason I am MA "LTC" is because I PO'd some "maggots" by getting them kicked out of the welfare train or unconditionally committed. I am a "PO Box."

PS: I am a "friendly" with/towards LE.

Well you'd better start eating a lot of Clams Casino when you go out, and ask for a doggy bag.
Clams on the half shell.
Hi there. I'd like an order of Clams Casino and a 50 pound bag of your shells to go. Wonder how that will work out.

Makes a very nice looking driveway. Not well known in Nebraska, but along the shore and the Chesapeake Bay,
sure is a natural material. One could even say organic...at least to begin with.

I got clam shells because of appearance but after a couple of years theyæ±*e like concrete. Mine is 6 years old in March.

I’m a fellow weather watcher, I like to study raw data and compare it to the model runs. Fun guessing along. I have a bit of knack forecasting short term from looking at sky conditions and radar runs. I’m often more accurate than the weather services for 24-36 hours. My wife use to watch weather when there was precip about, then ask me, “What’s it really going to do?” :D

Toppop- At the next Weather Geek Anonymous Meeting I'll wear a beige fedora , I have a bad mustache, a decent "ghetto button," and I usually do not talk to myself. Learning to read weather is a lifelong passion.

Some individuals really do have a "gift" for weather casting; maps or not. I still am leery about forecasts from those who speak to parking meters and telephone poles.

I have always been weather fascinated. I actually subscribe to a weather service to get additional maps and to confuse myself even further. I can relate about pre-predicting the ProMets. 24 - 36 hours is really good. Some people believe that I can "prognosticate", but in reality I just go to the dump (i.e. "transfer station") to get the real "weather" from my neighbors who rely on "weather/climate" for their livelihoods.

 You must've had a plan for all those extra pavers, Don. Did you get enough of installing the ones you did and decide not to follow up on the rest? Asking because, even though I've seen pavers being installed, I've never done the job myself. Don't want to bite off more than I can chew...

After running out on my first batch of 10,000 pavers from Acme Brick in Texas, I had to go to another supplier in Mexico. The quality was sub par and about half were defective so I bought twice as many, a discount was given after I brought back several pallets but then they told me just to keep them. I was able to use the defective ones whenever I did not need a full paver. In the end I had several pallets left over.

The job is easy if you compact the soil (preferably gravel then coarse sand) before you lay the pavers and have a good cement boarder. Divide the project into sections each surrounded by a cement boarder about 8-12 inches wide and no more than about 1,200 pavers. There are pavers made to walk on and pavers made to drive on, be sure to use the appropriate paver. The pavers are made to either have a gap or lay touching each other (knobs and tampered). If you can, get the ones that butt up against each other. I used the straight edge pavers that required a quarter inch gap and cut about 50,000 small styrofoam spacers before applying the setting paver sand in-between the pavers. I'm going to have to rest now the memories are making me tired.

Thanks for that, Don. I'm going to have a strong drink now, your description wore me out so badly.:drink:

My last house had a large area of pavers, the kind with very small cracks between them. I was always having to pull weeds and grass out from between them. Any way to stop that?

Has anyone installed a hinged flagpole. I was thinking of a flag pole between two c-beams (faced outward) with two bolts - remove the bottom bolt to pivot the flagpole down.
