At least he had a dually IMG_20160528_124216706.jpg this dump truck weighed 14 ish so 20k would be about right. I have since upgraded trucks...

I doubt it’s textbook weight distribution, but on the likely chance it’s a 20k trailer he would have overloaded the axels to fix the weight distribution.

Now if the dump truck itself was loaded THAT would be impressive.

The trailer would break in half.

That’s what I mean. The trailer alone looks to weigh 5-6k. I don’t believe that truck can legally take that pin weight

The trailer has some length to it, it's at least 7k, I've been trying to remember what our old twin screw dump truck we used to have weighed, for some reason I keep thinking around 24k. And some of those trailers do have 12k axles. Either way it is quite a load. I'm betting the dump truck was broke down and they were just glad to get it on the trailer,. I can't see anyone that has a setup like that not understanding weight distribution. Those long trailers like that suck to get weight distributed correctly sometimes.

No wonder I got into trouble trying to pull a similar but shorter trailer uphill in mud with a small tractor. I way underestimated the trailer's tare weight.

Story with more photos that I posted here several years ago, in response to someone with a similar stuck trailer.

Funny, I had read that thread and had seen that image. Heavier built trailers are always heavier than you think. A factory built trailer usually has its empty weight on the mfg tag. Christmas Eve this year this was my load. Gross weight was 28,600, 62 international was 12,600, truck and trailer 15,980, and my truck 9800. That puts my 20+4 trailer weighing 6k ish. I had a 3hr trip with it, I truly didn’t think the international weighed that much. Whopping 7.5mpg on that run at 70.

Can you run at 70?

One thing the CHP crack down on is speeding vehicles with trailers... especially on the wide open and straight freeways the 5

Oh man. A sad story: I interviewed a woman responsible for some government records and she seemed shy but desperately lonesome stuck in a storeroom all day.

Later someone mentioned 'isn't she cute? She moved here after a divorce and doesn't know anyone, and several single guys say they discovered she isn't interested in dating right now.

Next I heard of her she had died running off I-5 after midnight near Kettleman Hills (remote area, halfway to Los Angeles) pulling a little U-Haul with a little Honda, moving to a new job opening in Southern California that I'm sure she thought would make her life better. I always wondered if engaging her more in conversation that day could have made any difference in her life.

Fortunately, in the land of Missouri speed limit posted is speed limit of all vehicles unless otherwise posted.

So for us most interstate is 70, I try to usually pull the big trailers or 5th wheel at 62-65mph but sometimes have to make up time. If you want to really watch your mileage drop (and worry about tires) go to Kansas and run I-70 75mph limit there.

I've heard don't speed in CA, and I never do in IL, know that one from experience.

I love Texas and their 85mph limit in some places. Here in Georgia, fines double for over 20mph past the speed limit. I suppose that if they caught you doing 85 they'd just shoot your dead right there on the spot?

The only speeding ticket I’ve ever got was for driving 30mph in a school zone at 2:19. School lets out at 2:45 but for some reason they they turn on the yellow flashing lights at 2:15.

The freeways are posted 55 mph limit for pulling anything but the majority of semis run about 62~63. Pulling my little 4x8 utility trailer I run with the faster trucks. Or in heavy traffic, go along with the traffic up to 70 and sometimes over so that I'm not an obstacle. I've been passed many times by pickups with trailers and I've never seen one pulled over for a ticket, ever. (Except for unsecured loads of rubbish but that's not a speed issue). The enforcement focus seems to be on keeping traffic moving smoothly and targeting only the gross speeders who disrupt traffic.

If I am pulling heavy I mostly stay around 60. (Highways are zoned 70 here) My main thing is if there is any traffic I try to at least double my following distance.

Agreed, the following distance is really important.
Rural hwys are 55 to 65 around here, the narrow lettered state hwy I live on I maybe will touch 55 with a trailer...

I've pulled at 85 a couple of times making runs for a buddy when I was younger. His comment was fuel was cheaper than time... He was working in the oilfields at the time. I've never put so much fuel into a truck on a trip, I really didn't like going that fast, it's so hard on everything (and very expensive if you get stopped.)
