There is some part of my psyche that unconsciously keeps 'an eye out' for pallets... at the hardware store, the feed supply and even the tip! (the council rubbish grounds)

This is what I said. People are drawn to pallets for whatever reason so I put them at the end of the drive by the road and the next day they are gone. Simple as that.

And there seems to be no end to the number I can get rid of. I have put down 15 and they're gone. One and it's gone. Poof.
The scary part is I have never seen anyone stop and actually pick them up. They are just gone.

Actually when you closely examine some pallets you discover some beautiful woods, especially the hardwood pallets.
Just great for small projects like gift boxes, book ends etc.
In fact one trend is paneling walls with distressed soft wood from pallets.
So much so is the trend that actual special tools are offered to dismantle them.

Once you set one free it has a natural instinct to disappear.

Yep, I have harvested small pieces of mahogany from pallets I am pretty sure came from SE Asia.

Same here. My Wife's ex-sister-in-law just built a new house and they did all the interior walls like this. Can't say I care for the idea, but I don't have to live there.

Way back when I purchased my first home the local lumber yard had a pile of crates (we'll call them pallets for this forum) that Luan plywood was shipped in.
The 'crates' consisted of 6 inch wide 4 and 8 ft boards which were made from the same wood.
As it turned out most crate boards were darker and denser boards, in fact almost, if not, a mahogany.
I recall paying the yard $25.00 for enough to fill my trailer.(they were going to burn them)
Well I built some cabinets, a desk and with the longer ones fenced in the entire back yard with 3 plank 'ranch' style fencing.

This is not just about pallets... but pallets in the fields and solving the mysteries there of... I think it has been established in this thread, that there is more to pallets than even the astute observer may have initially understood.

I knew it would happen! After reading most of this post over the past few days, when I went out to my field this morning, I couldn't believe what I saw!! There they were!!

Shoot them, after turning them slightly so the dirt pile is behind them, and stapling on some targets.
