Not if you get an over run clutch.

Yes, an overrun clutch is critical if the PTO doesn't disconnect from the wheels when you push in the clutch.

That 5 ft harrow is WAY too big!! I promise you. And I'm one too push the limits. I mow with a 5ft hog where others say you can't and shouldn't do it. I have about a 4.5 ft disk harrow and with weight on top of it to actually get it to cut through the grass it's all my tractor wants and it still is almost neutral weighted with 175 pounds of weight on the front bumper. And don't forget I have 3 more HP or so than you.

Ok good to know. We have a single gang of probably 20" discs at our land - either 8 or 10 discs. I am guessing they weigh around 3-400 lbs at least. Do these old heavy single gang sets work well enough?

I think someone here uses those type disks. I think they call them bog disks.

It should be able to pull them as long as there not like 24" disks or something.

What I meant when I said it's neutral weighted with my disk is that when I pick it up its about just balanced on the rear axle . When driving up hill and I hit a bump the front lifts up till the disks catch it. Then it slowly slams back down. I can get off and pick up the front of the tractor when the disks are lifted is how light the front is.

Ahh that makes sense now as I kept wondering what people talking about. I read about them more after you posted that and seems like they should cut pretty aggressively! I'm gonna give those a shot first before I buy anything.

Under on the weight. Where's best place to get some suitcase weights?

Another question, how robust/durable are the PTO gear boxes on these Yanmars compared to other small tractors like Deere or Kabota?

Built to handle some tough bush hogging/tilling?

PTOs are plenty durable. I mow stuff that's too big for my tractor. If I can get it bent over and under the bushhog or tractor I will slowly mow it down. You don't hear about many failures of these things. The back PTo can be taken out as a unit from the back so anything that needs to be replaced is easier I am sure than on some tractors. you still need tools and know how, pullers and presses but you can get these things apart. That said I have not heard about a bad bearing really that I remember let alone a busted gear??

They easily will till and bush hogging is probably more of a stressor. Especially when encountering things like small trees etc.

As for weights what ever you can get the cheapest to hang up there. There all about the same. some have had luck buying at like lowes for their yard tractors. I just have a solid metal bar that's 3"s and a 3" ID pipe filled with lead on the front of mine to make a 2 pipe front pipe bumper on mine. Welded to some brackets made from just angle iron.

How tough is the pto? These Yanmars are high horsepower to weight ratio, designed mainly for powering a rototiller that needs all of the tractor's horsepower.

There is no form of strain relief, slip clutch or sacrificial shear pin, in factory configuration. Running the rototiller into an immovable object while running at full power simply stalls the tractor. Generally without damaging anything.
