I did my first service on my XR4140HC. Did everything it listed, oil changed, oil filter changed (I hate the location of the filter), cleaned the radiator and screen, greased all the fittings, etc. I changed the main hydraulic filter. I didn't realize until that day there is a HST filter so I was just going to get one in a couple days. Anyways after changing the main hydraulic filter I needed to add a little fluid. I used Supertech Tractor/Hydraulic oil. I ran the tractor for a few min and then I realized the 3 point hitch did not move at all. Not even a hint that something was happening. I checked the fluid again and it was a little low after running it so I added more.

So I have read I might need to bleed air from the hydraulics. Anyone know how I would do that.

The front end loader works, PTO works, steering is fine, drives fine. 3 point hitch is dead.

You just keep slowly cycling fully up/down until all of the air has been pushed back through the pump.

Keep checking fluid level when you do this, or you may introduce more air into the system.

This is what I have done on other tractors in the past.

I had my 3 point go dead unexpectedly after changing implements in back. Dealer was a long way away & nearly decided he would come get my 4140... called back & said to see if I had bumped the rear hydraulic lever with the detent ( think it is the "lever2", green handle). Sure enough, the lever was off the neutral center position. Moved lever to center position and 3 point worked like new. Dealer said this is normal and that the detent circuit freezes the 3 point circuit.
Hope this is your problem, such a simple resolution.

I have no idea if that worked or what. The green lever on mine has springs so it is always at the neutral position if not being operated. I pressed on it but it was in the center and sprung back to center. THe 3 point hitch is working now though. It might have worked whether I pushed the green lever or not. Regardless thanks for the help.

You're welcome. Whatever the cause & solution, glad to hear your 3 point is working again.
