Thomas the farm I grew up on had 70 acres of hardwood woods. We usually did 7 cords of firewood a year, my father loved to run the fireplace all weekend. Big old stone house poorly insulated so that roaring fire was everyone's favorite.
Now I do one cord a year and I can't give it away. One can give food to the poor, I wonder about firewood. Problem is that almost all poor folk in this area are in government housing or single wide trailers, all likely heated with electric heating.
............................................
You stir memory from the past :) I was brought up in old New England house and insulation R factor was little to none, but the old Sam Daniels wood furnace keep house warm and toasty but sure was thirsty temp went below zero  each year no less 10 cords of wood cut stack before June 1st.,strange in a way I miss doing the chore but in a way I don't.

No problem giving wood away in this area, heck if you leave cut wood beside the road towards in of the year you won't have to worry about it if you no what I mean.

Cord of wood in our area cut split deliver $275- $325.

Good Morning!!!! 79F @ 5:45AM. Mainly sunny. High 104F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Glad to hear our Texas members are still afloat! Those down on the Gulf Coast and in low lying areas of Houston aren't nearly so lucky, judging from the flood of videos over at weather.com. Flooding is supposed to get worse over the next few days as the rain continues.

Not much of a cool off here last night, barely dipping into the 70s. I made it to 1:30 PM out in the garage when it hit 100F, came in for some water and a long nap.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend...

The low this morning was 46*, yesterday high was 90*. Today is going to be about the same, they don't show any rain for a few days.

We made it to town for the car show. Quite a few cars there, more then I thought would be there. Was there most of the day then had dinner with the neighbors that we had gone to the show with. It was a enjoyable day.

A another neighbor has been working on a garage, he had the foundation done. He had a crew of 4 with him Friday morning. And looking over there this morning and he has everything up, the metal roof on and done. Looks like he just needs to put the outside skin on it. It looks to be about a 30x40 garage. Wish mine had gone that quick.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Still raining here but, slower than yesterday.

Only in Texas can you have a drought, a burn ban, an eclipse, a hurricane and tornadoes all in one week!

69°F and no rain. A little dry is good. Hope the same for the Harvey crowd.

Likely finish the mowing today, no other big plans.

Be safe.
Have a great day

71F and mostly cloudy @ 13:00, high today supposed to be 79F ... not sure we'll hit that unless it clears up some. The Woman says it is "chilly" and she is "cold" ...

Good chance (50%) of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, would be welcome. No 80's in the forecast until a week from today and then it's only 81F.

Got some rough measurements on the trash/recycle cans yesterday afternoon ... may work on building the part that fits into the hitch receiver to pick them up today.

But since it's overcast and (relatively) cool, it might also be a good day to get some other outside work done.

Should be able to avoid mowing lawn for another 5 days or so ...

Interesting label :)
I sure like the view from where that pup is sittin' ... :)

Shakes head...
:D

... RS nice looking porter :)
Thanks.

... RS, was the beer as good as the dog picture? :drink:
I like it ... it's pretty smooth.

But I like Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout a little better.

Neither has as much "bite" as Guinness Stout or Yuengling Black and Tan, which I like a lot less.

Only in Texas can you have a drought, a burn ban, an eclipse, a hurricane and tornadoes all in one week!

You left out the rattlesnakes, scorpions, wild pigs, various biting and stinging insects, and broiling summers. I'll stick with earthquakes, shakey dams, and call it even on the broiling summers and rattlesnakes...:laughing::laughing:
