LD is exactly right, most fees and permits are just another way for governmental agencies to extract more money out of the public.
Maybe in farm country it would have been OK (or less bad?) with a tractor but he's within the urban boundary of or Nation's Capital. There's actually a Police Station right there just out of the picture! A couple grand in fines/fees -- the guy should consider himself lucky. It's not about raking in money, it's about educating people that are too stupid to figure things out on their own. Ignorance doesn't absolve you from obeying the laws.
I thought he got a police escort? Have y'all watched any of the accident videos from Russia, India, and SE Asia?! I'm ok with needing a permit...
Fees and fines are fast becoming revenue sources built into operating budgets.
For some it is simply a cost of doing business as to how far it has come... especially with deliveries in the city.
I do see many that seem to skirt the towing requirements... they get away with it by staying off freeways and avoiding weigh stations.
One local contractor tows a tagged 22k bumper pull with a older F250 and has done so for years... actually had the trailer built for the weight needed... none of his guys have commercial licenses and all that goes with it and the trucks are not rated to pull that weight.
Will try to get a picture the next time I see the rig.
And it is SO UNSAFE that he has done it for years with NO incidents.
What trucks are "rated to pull" or haul is a performance rating, NOT a SAFETY rating.
MOST vehicles can pull or haul much more then they are rated for just not at the performance levels of one pulling or hauling nothing.
Stupid people doing stupid things is what causes accidents.
The "common sense of yesteryear is not so common anymore.
What part of this isn't for the money?
Not really wrong but sure kept most people away from me! View attachment 514845
P.S. You're missing a wheel...
