"Have a new friend in Fries butcher shop. Tall thin lady, not really what you would call good looking"

Oh come on now. You know darn well that after a couple of 6 packs, she will be the best looking thing in town...lol  Yeah, we've all gone that route and woke up in the morning and took a look next to us in bed and thought, "What in the double naught H*ll was I thinkin' " I finally figured it out. I wuz thinkin' with the wrong Head! :ashamed: Oh boy, those days in the Navy come storming back in memories...lol I bet you have some wild stories to tell from way back then.....and fine lookin' women....after the six pack anyway. :D

Don't forget to change the names to protect the innocent in your stories....

Crash, don't get caught up paying 24% interest!!!

/ Bad Day at Block Rock - errrr - Make it Bad Year. #1,274
Amen to this. What little spare money you do have, will sucked up by this. Dangerous trap for sure.
They're right on this one. I know sometimes we don't have a choice...but when you do get some of that money from sales of stuff, that 24% needs to go "bye bye".

Thinking and praying for ya man!

No need to protect the innocent, c hances are they are all dead by now.

I had more fun in the navy that any 1 person is entitled to. Starting in Boot camp. The commander ( Richard Hart) restricted us to the barracks over the week end. So I got the troop in order marched them across the bridge to the gedunk ( name for the navy store in those days. after doing our shopping we marched back in a very official manner.

You can mot graduate form boot camp until you have fired a weapon. Right??:D I did not fire a gun in the Navy until I was in the PI. It was an very old Colt 1911 45 cal. you could almost hear the slug rattling down the barrel. Target was an empty oil can thrown out into the bay. Don't think anyone even got close to the can.

Oklahoma was a sort of dry state. Bars could server 3.2 beer only & you had to be 21. Next door to a little bar was a typewriter store I took some bathroom paper & typed a bunch of 5's on it from different writers until I found 1 that pretty much matched the writing on my ID. Wrapped it with clear tape a few layers thick. went to the bar next door & ordered a beer. lady running the bar laughed at me, then said go sit in that back booth with your back to the door, no matter what I do or say do not turn around. Soon she brought me a beer. :licking: Kept that tape on my ID for a long time & was never questioned again. Kept a small bottle of whisky in my locker the whole time I was there. I only had a sip or 2 & let other drink it. It was easier to get booz in a dry state than a wet 1. Sit down in a coffee shop & soon someone would sit down beside you & ask what you want. Fairly soon he would hand you a paper bag & you would had him the $$. There were also what were called Set Up Bars. You ordered a bowl of ice & sodas. under the table you poured in the hootch.
That is also where I learned that you don't kiss a girl on a roller coaster. it's a little hard on your teeth & lips.

I knew the navy was trying to kill us.
Set us down in front of an old twin engine plane & fired them up. On starting they rattled, smoked , then the stacks caught fire. As they run them up the shook even more. I knew they were going to fly off & cut everyone to pieces.

When going from OK to TN the buss driver should have been driving for NASCAR. Going across a narrow bridge with a sharp turn on the far side he slid the buss sideways. No 1 killed or hurt. :)

Back is having fits. So giving up for a while.

Good Morning Jim.
Be careful with the credit card. quick and easy to spend your money but having a limited amount coming in it is a trap to your finances.
kind of figure every dollar not spent on card is a dollar profit for the day.

remember your friend that spent a year with the dime.

Since I and another are the oldest men in church here. have to keep and eye on him . a month ago he fell getting out of the garage door.landed on the dog house and crushed it with dog inside. and wife helping him fell also.
The son found them Bruised Mangled and Disarrayed shortly after this event.
then this morning heard he has fallen again now in V.A. with broken in 2 places arm and brain bleeding.

With your back problems and lack of funds is there not a meals on Wheels group in your area.
they deliver.

And your continued problem with the swamp cooler . wouldn't it be better to connect the water directly to sprayer and then adjust the flow so that when water overflows and drains into dogs water bowl. could adjust the flow.
also clean water smells better than recycled stuff.

I remember the 120 + temperatures of your area having to work outside would wet a cloth and place tools on the cloth then cover with another so could use the tools with out burning the hands.

Also getting inside truck in the morning and engine already warmed up. close to over heating.
then driving close to wire line and climbing the poles to repair. the engine ran in the red all day .
and today . all the skin cancers that have already been removed still every 3 months the skin Doctor gets a payment for new car.
Jim looking forward to the book you mentioned. normal payment?

se'ya ken

When I was in the navy I pulled the same stunt with my ID. Changed a 7 to a 5 if I remember correctly. Worked great!

My first ride in 1 of our planes (P5M1) was a new pilot check out. That means maximum bank angles & so on. That was some what of a thrill. Flying into San Francisco I wanted to see the place. Went into the tail bubble for a good view. As an after thought I put the strap across the tail up. The bay there was so rough It tried to throw me out. Had my feet firmly planted & pushing against the strap, kept me in place. Another dumb thing on that trip, I stayed behind to fix one of the other boats that needed a new air scoop. They did not have 1 that fit a 1 only had 1 to fit a P5M2. Had to take a hand file to make it fit. Seems like it took a couple of days. That was the first time I was ever on a ship. Rather than sleep on the plane. thought it might be nice to sleep on a ship. Once I saw the bunks & so on, went back to the plane. had to go back & check blanket back in. Trip to ship #2. Everyone on the plane was to take a 2 hour watch. Navigator took his watch ( The radio on the plane could be changed to music.) every so often you were to blink the wing lights so people knew you were awake & watching thing. Navigator tuned in music & started the APU . That was a miniature jet engine hooked to a generator. A horrible whine & loud. May be the main reason that I have tenitas, now in both ears & right ear changes pitch every so often & at time has 2 noises at the same time. One good thing is as my stress level goes down, ear noise goes way dawn. Left ear it even goes away.

Bay was so rough in the morning, when they finally got someone awake, we opened the door, the boat wold come by When it would raise up someone would jump aboard. had that been a white hat that went to sleep, chances are there would be he!! to pay.
Rough sea landings.Being on the fuel panel, there was not a seat, safety strap or head set. Didn't know that they were going to try a rough sea landing. Just to see better I stood up, hands on the back of the cockpit seats & arms against the cir-cut breakers. Rough sea landing, when close to the water, both engines to full reverse. Lucky that I did not go out the front glass.
The spot light (1 million candle power) was good for once on the ground & once in the air. Fix it again for next flight. 1 Of the guys in our crew had some kind of a sleeping sickness. Once he was found while filling the coffee pot, went to sleep & water was every where. He was also found a sleep in a Bombay. Lucky for him no one opened the bay. The constant speed alternator ( named a Sun Strand. Very complicated), ours would screw up once in a while. had to flash the field, sparks flew all over the place. For a while we had a pilot called Oddles , because he had lots $$$$. He had one of those French cars that would level itself. We use to push on it to see it go up & down If memory is correct 1 day we did that until it ran the battery dow & he call road service or what ever it was called in those days. He loved to get so low the indicator would indicate we were under water. He was happy as a clam, me was nervous . Rocket runs, had spaces on the wings for 8 dumb rockets. There was a rock out behind Catalina island. Dive at it near vertical, Go way passed the max air speed.
Wings flapping & everything shaking. When the rockets were launched they went off with an very loud bang. Naturally they wanted to see if they it the rock. Then pull out of the dive so hard I wondered if the wings were going to fold. One day it was scorching hot a 5,000 feet that when the door (Hatch ??) was opened it was like sitting in front of a blast furnace.
Never saw the Sea Dart fly, but did see it doming some high speed runs.

There were 2 ways to turn the monster around, some rudder like things on the rear & 1 engine forward & 1 backwards. Yep turning on a dime & getting change. The hull on our boat leaked, O&R came out & put a new hull on it. Still leaked.

More fun, silly, goofy & stupid stories later.
Need to lay down & hope back settles down.
Jim

Hi Folks,
Very little to report, have done almost nothing the last dew days & its way to hot out side. Inside a lot better, at 83 in living room & higher in bedroom. 29 degree difference so the box is working. & it was hotter earlier.

Doug came down, he didn't stay long, just 2 beers. No world problems solved.

Back is not at all happy today. & floating rib is always at least somewhat irritating.

Listed 2 things on E-Bay, in the model airplane section. Hope they sell. Sure could use a few bucks. if back will let me, need to take some more pictures & add a few more items.

Speaking of wet rags, I have been using 1 in the house the last couple of days.

Plaster City West of El Centro, talked to one of the builders, they carried their tools around in a bucket of water. Were I doing anything outside that would be a necessary thing. Can't touch anything that has been in the sun.

Need to wrap this up now.
More Later,
Jim

Good stories. In 1975 A.D. in Navy boot camp, we also used the worn out 45's. I still remember being good at disassembly and then reassembly. The chief holding the stop watch said it was a very good timing so I was happy. Some had a very difficult time on the reassembly. I helped one guy and he got better at it after some practice. I said A.D. on the year above....I figured it was probably B.C. when you were at boot....lol
