They sell it by the gallon too but it's not a bad idea to have an extra gallon or so on hand to make up for spills, leaky couplers etc.

I'd like to see tractor manufacturers find out a way to eliminate this quite troublesome thing and waste of huge amounts of oil. Cars and trucks used to require oil and filter changes after only (around) 1,000 miles or so. Now, they typically allow you to go to the routine 7.5-15k oil change interval the 1st time.

Reasons are as given above by others, but I'd think they should find out a way to blow out or flush out these metal particles and shavings at the factory where it could really be better controlled and checked.

I just did a complete service for a customer on a L2500 Kubota. '98 model, had never been serviced. 675 hours on the clock. The factory synthetic hydraulic oil was pristine. Zero shavings on the magnetic plugs. This model has the screen in the rear axle casing. I could not reuse it. Not sure if it was deformed from the factory or due to restricted flow. Did not appear to have any shavings or grit on it. Because I was replacing it I did not spend any time cleaning it. Radiator and front axle pristine as well. The engine oil was used. Not clear if it was original or not. Her husband had passed and she was not sure. With a new battery, belt, fluids and filters, she came out of her year and 1/2 slumber and purred like a kitten.
Changing fluids is just something that has to be done when you are under warranty. Even if it is overkill.

Not uncommon for the first change; when I did the first change on my JD 2320 there was a good bit of shavings on it. The second time there was barely anything on it.

It's normal for a little fuzz to be on the magnet picked up from the oil for a new piece of gear but after the gears and bearings have lapped themselves in, the fuzz should go away.

Very basic science.....duh. Gravity! Slowly drifts from the head to the ears, nose etc. Hahaha

Hst version: 36 qts

Front axle: 4.2 qts Hydro fluid.

I know why I said 11 gals earlier. I bought 11 gals when I got the fluid.

The info I received from Manhandra said 4.25 qts of 80/90 oil for front axel.

Mahindra can't make up it's mind on whether to use hydraulic oil or gear oil in the front axles. My operator's manual said to use hydraulic oil but the service manual speced gear lube. Since I've torn down and rebuilt a few diffs myself, I tend to prefer high quality synthetic gear lube so used it in mine.

I use multi grade gear lube so have the range of operating temperatures covered.
There is really nothing different about the front diff in the tractor as the differential in a truck or car, at least in my truck which sees severe off road duty. I've never seen or heard anyone recommend putting hydraulic fluid which is much like auto tranny or power steering fluid in a differential or any other strictly mechanical gear box like a diff, transfer case or mechanical transmission. Those all run with gear lube.
