You're welcome. I'm glad you determined the problem. Since it's such a pain to access I'll advise to spray a penetrating oil on linkage with more lubricating qualities than WD40 such as PBBlaster,Kroil or Liquid Wrench.

You are right, I poured 10w30 on them to keep them wet. I can't believe how stiff it got from sitting.

Your tractor may have accidentally been exposed to sea water when it was shipped from Mannheim. I still remember picking up in the port of Houston,Tx new JD utility tractors shipped from Mannheim.
