As others have said, go check out the Farm Bureau for a policy.
When we were building our current house, we just used the insurance company that covered our city house. To cover the new house I had to answer a bunch of question such as do you have a trampoline and what kind of dog(s) do you have. The dogs could have been a problem.
The cost of the policy went up after a year or so and we checked out Farm Bureau which provided the same coverage for half the price.
We have additional coverage on the tractor and some other stuff. We have had a couple of claims and we have not had a price increase. After one car accident, the Farm Bureau employees were awesome in helping use deal with the situation. We can't say enough good things about them.
Not having at least liability insurance is asking for trouble. In the early days of TBN, one of the the big posters was into horses and competitive horse events. He mentioned two incidents about horses and lawsuits.
One was I believe in SC where a couple of people on horse back rode on someone else's land. One of the horse stumbled in a hole, the rider was thrown and got hurt. They sued the land owner.
The other case might have been in Iowa. A brother and sister went to a friend of the sister to ride horses. The sister climbed on the horse and the brother slapped the rear of the horse with his hat. The horse reared up and threw the sister who was hurt. The parents of the brother/sister sued the parents who owned the horse and land.
Even if the lawsuit is bovine scat it will still cost to have to defend oneself.
Later,
Dan
