Tractor
Working on it
So like many others, I am looking for a tractor. My usage will be 1/2 acre landscaping of a steep backyard, making LOTS rock walls (placing some of the big rocks with the backhoe), digging trenches for cement foundations and drainage. And when all that's done years later, some small scale vegetable farming. I am also very mechanically capable (replaced and rebuilt car engines, do all renos myself, electronics degree, etc etc)

I've looked at lots of units and have 2 options in my head.
Spend $19000-$20000 on a 2012-2016 BX25D style unit?
or buy a older 2000-2008ish (chinese or big 3) for under $10000 and get an LW-7 or similar backhoe?

So far I have a few units to choose from:
2006 BX2350 1100hrs $9200 (No backhoe, cosmetically it does have some broken and cracked plastic)

2015 BX25D 45hrs $20000 (backhoe with thumb, rear ballast box, canopy/roof. Has been stored inside)

2007 B7510 170hrs $16500 (no backhoe)

Backhoes:
80s 3pt Kubota Backhoe Attachment $1400.00

2016 LW-7 backhoe $3500 +tax

I've read about the chinese crate tractors with varying reviews. Some like it, some hate it but it would still be great to hear more. Lower cost is always better for us, but I would like to get the garage done before I have to do any repairs.

This one is my vote. Probably still under factory warranty and might still be able to purchase an extended warranty. You also know what has been done to it. Find out if the 50hr. Service has been done, if not, make the dealer do it as part of the sale. That or buy new for not much more and get the benefits of better financing and the promotional 6 yr powertrain warranty. While I understand you're handy, it sounds like you're ready to get to work rather than troubleshooting a machine.

I think it's worth going with the factory installed BH. No second seat needed. Easy attach and disconnect. No messing with the factory hydraulics to "make it work".

I would do new, but the tax here is 12% and we don't desperately need financing (using our mortgage). I think the quote for a new BX25D was $25000-$26000.

I actually "almost" bought that one cause it was at $18750 with no tax. I asked about the tax twice on different days, once just before we started the paperwork with a firm answer of no tax. Then about 1/2 way through the paperwork he said hang on a sec, came back 30 seconds later saying there was tax. I said I'd have to come back after talking to the accountant (aka wife), then decided not to because I didn't really get a good vibe from that dealer, especially after what seemed like sneaky sales tactics. Plenty of other places to go to I guess.
