How to mount T&G wood on ceiling...

Here's a pretty interesting video of a guy doing it by himself, with some handy home-made helpers....

I have pine T&G in my front porch. Air nailer is the way to go. You miss with a hammer and the pine will have a round dent that you won't be able to hide. Hammering overhead will get tiresome very quickly. Harbor Freight makes a good air trim nailer. Just buy good nails at HD or Lowes.

How to mount T&G wood on ceiling...

We did out entire cottage with t&g pine on the walls. We used a finish nailer to nail through the tounge. I can't think of any reasons to do it different on the ceiling.

I used a pneumatic stapler on the tongues. Just did it at an angle back towards the board a bit so it didn't interfere with the next board fitting over the tongue. Next board covers it up. Been up in my outside decks and entry ceiling for 2+ yrs now. No issues.

Have made a lot of car siding in my cabinet shop. And installed it all. This is a very simple task. You definately want to use an air nailer. I prefer small head of a brad. As someone said, 16" on center is plenty of support. You can nail the face or tongue if you like. With a brad it's hardly noticable. Once the first run is set the rest just tap in to place with tongue and Grove to somewhat hold it. Two people is the berries but one can do it easily. Only tip is prefinish it before install.

Liquid nails. Wife will not be able, to make you change it in a few years.

You don't know my wife! She can be determined!!!

in the beginning, we (ourselves) laid a marble flooring down in the foyer. several years later, she decided it has gone out of style....so....will I take my (air) chisel....and rip it all up so we can replace it with tile?

Did it successfully so now, she says she doesn't like the color of the marble floor in the bathroom (which was put down with epoxy) and she might want it ripped up so we can replace it.

Seems she likes to change colors every now & then.

Kinda wish I'd known this interesting trait prior asking her out to dinner  These are some significant things to know about someone before tying knots!

;)

Ok, thanks folks!!

We do have a finish nailer already (and the nails as a matter of fact)

We also felt the boards should be finished first so they're already painted and cut to near length. Will cut to final length when they go up.

Ok, here's question number 2...

We already have about six can lights. She's going to move them about 6-10 inches (if there is enough wire up there)

I'm guessing that each board will need to be cut out as it's installed, going around the can light verses using a hole saw afterwards, correct?

When we've put the drywall up, I cut a hole 'near' the size of the can opening and used a rasp to finalize it, making it as snug a fit as I could.

I don't have that luxury with the boards..... I DO have a router but it's a monster and wouldn't be very controllable overhead like that (I have thought about mounting it on my router table and using it to (what's the word) "free hand" the cutout instead of using a jig saw)

I'd hold and move the board on top of the table rather than try to hold & control the router (don't recall the model number but it's the big porter cable, 2 1/2 hp or maybe as much as 3 1/2... I forget and am not a big wood worker to know those specifics!)

You're going to have about 10-11 nails holding up a 14' board. I don't think it would sag with 16" on center. And I don't think it will pull the nails or the nails pull through.

it won't. I have torn down several old houses and buildings with such ceilings. Didn't have one that sagged. Just nail the same way you do flooring.
