Everything on hold in this area for a bit, the next ten days all have over a 50% chance of rain, just hope things dry out by the first of May now.

Late Easter this year, so it will be interesting!

Margie has been urging me to get started, then she reminds me about how late Easter is this year. :confused3:

I was out much earlier last year, and got burned.

I've got all the sprinklers going on the planted part of the garden. We have dried out pretty quick. It is cloudy today.

Yesterday's planting, in the south side of the garden going east to west. 3 rows of Acorn Squash,

3 rows of Muncher cucumbers,

Then skip a couple of rows where I put in more cukes today, then the proverbial garden path, then 7 rows of Crimson Sweet melons.

Today I put in 2 rows of Straight 8 cucumbers between the Munchers and the path.

To the west of the Crimson Sweet's I put in 4 rows of Spaghetti squash the BIL hooked me up with. 2 rows of 2009 seeds, and 2 rows of 2016 seeds.

Lastly I planted 3 rows of Armenian cucumbers. You guys may remember that some of my seeds got crossed. Also how my fool proof seed test with 4 different sets of seeds in 4 different, and plainly labeled sets of trays, from last year went great, right up until the sun and rain washed all the ink off my labels. So this year the seeds are going right into the ground and I marked the seeds 1, 2, 3 & 4. Row #3 is 1/2 number 3 and 1/2 number 4, with the change coming at the soaker hose of demarcation. I used up all the 3 and 4 seeds.

I see this story online today I could hardly imagine having this kind of weather during the Summer months. Tough enough that the growing season as it is here is only about 100 days! :eek:

There was a cold spell in Northern Europe from 1695 - 1710 or so that was really bad. Caused the herring and the Scandinavians to migrate south. The cost of herring fell out so bad the fishermen couldn't make a living, and the cost of wheat got so high no one could eat bread. Lost of folks starved. Good furs though. Said to be some of the best beaver taken. {which was my angle when I was doing the research a few years back}

Had our first mess of green onions last evening; they were set out mid February. Have radishes, lettuce and cucumbers coming up, but just barely. Need some rain. About two weeks early for tomatoes, unless you are among the brave and don't mind watching the weather closely and covering them if the occasion demands.
