Additive for ULSD gas...

I've been using PS White for years. No problems at all and I don't use the equipment that frequently. Sometimes it goes 8-9 months without being run and it always starts right up on the first crank revolution.

Your thread title and 1st post both mention GAS, so it's no surprise that you're asked what you asking about. Maybe go back and remove the word GAS so its clear what you're inquiring about.

On the subject of ULSD, it can cause problems that 50 years ago weren't an issue, AND there wasn't bio-diesel back then either, nor were cell phones or laptops available. Often the problems in fuel stem from who you're buying your fuel from as much as how often one runs their equipment.
Best to buy from large volume suppliers who go through lots of fuel each month instead of local low volume sellers. Additives/preventatives are sometimes useful, but a better option is a dependable supplier who sells large quantities to fleets of vehicles.

Well, I pretty much assumed that everyone would know that ULSD GAS would mean diesel seeing as how that's what ULSDIESEL stands for. I use the word word "gas" instead of "diesel" because when I go to fill up my tank, I say "I'm going to gas up" not "I'm going to diesel up." I think the word "gas" pretty much is acceptable to use for either gasoline or diesel.
As for where I buy my "diesel" as well as my "gasoline " it's probably the most heavily used gas station in town and I would estimate several hundred if not thousand vehicles fill up here on a daily basis so I'm pretty sure the "gas" and "diesel" both are reasonably fresh.

Thanks for your response.

If diesel eating critters are the main concern, a biocide is the best way to go. Most of the general additives on the shelf do not have biocide protection built into them. Something like FPPF Killem and some other brands will more than kill all those little bugs. But even then, if one is filling the fuel tank frequently, and buying their fuel from high volume stations, the risk is not that great for getting a critter problem. For stored diesel, a biocide is a good option. And a little goes a long, long way. One 16 oz bottle of FPPF Killem treats 1280 gallons of fuel. And the stuff really works. It is very cost effective compared to dumping bottles and bottles of off the shelf additives in the tanks that might not even address the critter problem effectively. You can usually find FPPF Killem at most commercial truck dealerships and major truck stop chains. One 16 oz bottle of Killem is cheaper than a jug of Power Service or Howes type of fuel additives.

If that makes sense to you then great. I have never heard anyone say that before and everything we have takes diesel. We say we are going to "fuel up".

"Gas" is short for gasoline and "ULSD" is short for ultra low sulfur diesel so saying ULSD GAS is very confusing and frankly makes no sense to the average person. Anyway to your question you need a biocide. Power service is a good product but the basic white bottle of it is not a biocide. I use biobor JF and it works well. I add it every time I feel up my 1000 bulk tank at my house. There other brands as well that probably work fine but I have not tried them.

When I got into diesels, it was easy for me to say...............fuel up, instead of gas up. It was easy to me because I an aircraft mechanic and just worked with jet fuel the last 38 years.
hugs and good luck, Brandi

Not sure what my problem is and until I read the article about ULSD and microbes growing, I had never heard of such a thing. I've had both diesel cars and trucks and never worried about bugs growing in the tank but I used the vehicles on a daily basis and filled up regularly. My concern was that the tractor does sit up for extended periods and with the problem that I am having I was concerned that I may be having the microbes problem and I'm open to trying anything that will help. Gonna try some of the suggestions that have been offered on here and we'll see what happens.

Once again, thanks to everyone who offered suggestions, I appreciate the help...

I guess I'm just used to saying "gas" because I go to the "gas" station to fill up, whether it's with gasoline or diesel. I never considered that there might be a misunderstanding because that's just the way I've used the terms, guess I'll have to think before I post again that not everyone uses the same terminology as I'm used to using.
I apologize to everyone that has offered tips for any misunderstanding I caused.

I agree with Brandi. I've always used the term "fuel up". Gas and diesel are to different things.
Fuel can be gas, kerosene, home heating oil, diesel or probably many other names so it seems like a better term to use.
