Hi all,

I see the earlier post from today, my problem is a bit different. Turn the key, nothing happens (no lights either)
but can jump it to start. Got it back to the barn, turned it off, and dead as can be.

I replaced the battery last month (it was 7 years old). Pulled the battery and Advance Auto (where I purchased
it) tested it and it was ok, fully charged. Voltage measured 12.63V.

This is a 1999 4300 HST, 830 blissful hours.

Thanks!
Sam

Sounds to me like the cable terminals need to be cleaned, not picking up the voltage through the build up of crud on them.

Check all 4 battery cable connections especially the negative cable where it attaches to tractor frame.

When checking the cables look where the terminal is crimped to the wire. They can corrode there and be hidden by the shrink tubing. It can drive you crazy.

Led can oxidize so hard a common wire brush won't touch it. I either use a battery brush or scrape with my trusty pocket knife until the gray color leaves and bright silver lead is exposed, then I consider it correct for service.

Hey gang, thanks for the help, problem solved. I checked all the cable connections, they were good. Cables also in good shape, used my pocket knife to clean the cable terminals and reattached to the battery and she fired right up.

Good to hear. Bad enough when they don't even crank, let alone when they don't start after cranking.

Buy yourself a battery cable brush..... and use it occasionally!
