I have been doing large scale construction for several years. Our company recently went through a layoff of employees. I am considering starting my own lot and landclearing company with a skidsteer and Fecon head. My question is: How much work of this type are you seeing out there?

Depends on where you live.

We do work in MD and the gulf coast of FL. Biggest problem I see is clowns who have no idea what they are doing under cutting everyone's pricing ! There is some dumb *** who just bought a head in MD who is half what everyone else is and thinks
he is making money, then there is another clown in FL making videos of how to get into forestry mulching yet he lives in a shed !

That's funny. From doing my research, and talking to others in the industry, I'm concerned that the market is becoming saturated. I'm not into working all month just to make equipment payments.

It's like that around here with skidsteers and mini trackhoes. Used to only a handful of people had them, now everybody and their brother has one.

Depends on where you are in Texas and the quality of work you do. There are more guys than ever. I got into mulching early... late 90's but everyone and their brother seems to be doing it now but the quality ranges from nice to just awful. I try and do higher end work for ranchers who are making their property pretty and I stay away from the commercial site prep and small home sites if i can help it and I don't have to compete too much in a bidding war due to word of mouth and consistent advertising. If you target cedar, you can can stay pretty busy but right now there's a lot of big machines mulching cedar until the oil fields pick back up.
