Also, they have retail stores all over the place. Most malls, shopping districts, etc...

We buy lands end. Nice you can do returns at Sears.
That is a good thing.

Here's their history... we used to buy really nice sweaters and outdoor wear from them. Good hiking shoes, too. Haven't purchased from their catalog in many, many years. I think they are no longer owned by Sears.
I read they were spun off with shareholders but still under Sears Holdings. The only stores around here that have the clothes is Sears and the selection is low. My wife would buy items online then bring the ones she didn't like back to Sears.

I should say Lands end has there own little section, or store, within Sears.

Lands End is no longer owned by Sears or Sears Holdings, but might have some common major share holders. They were known for quality conservative clothing, but have floundered since joining Sears. The past couple years they are being pushed by investors and have been changed their style trying to draw in higher end customers, which is driving away their bread and butter. They are going through CEOs who have been making horrible decisions regularly like the other big stores. It's a sad state for many great old American legend brands.

My local Sears used to have a decent tool section but now it is a mere 10% of its former self.
At this time they are filled with snow blowers which are merely re-branded Toro or ARIENS. (mtd) all of which no repair shop wants to work on as Sears insists on all sorts of minor modifications that renders parts availability a nightmare.
Their white goods are the same, just relabeled major brands with Sears special mods.
(Sears seems to prefer to sell sub assemblies rather than individual parts.)
Sears is going the way of the DODO bird.
Other than clothing perfumes and jewelry I think most departments are simply leased spaces operated by by others.

I heard this on the news this morning. Said part of the deal was making the Craftsman brand available in more stores. Be interesting to see how this plays out in the long run.

In the shorter term, I think Sears/Kmart is just about done.

I'm not into wishing ill will onto people.. but if the kmart in our area would close.. we could get a rural king or walmart.. and either / both, would be 1000x better than the kmart in our city... it's like a bad outlet store that sells junk nobody wants...

Kmart was sad 40 years ago. How they still exist is beyond me. :confused3:

Agreed, it is a mystery how they have lived this long. Our store in springfield, was a crummy store when I was a kid, and we always preferred to go elsewhere. Someone must have continued to patronize them I guess.

We used to ride our bicycles and go to the back of the store where the 'cafeteria' was at. They had a big clear umbrella hanging upside down full of balloons. You could pick and pop a balloon and inside would be a little strip of paper (like a fortune cookie) with the price you had to pay for a banana split or sundae. Sometimes full price, sometimes only a little or on a real lucky day, free. We would then go buy baseball or football trading cards with the leftovers (money that is). I still have all those cards from the late 60s early 70s.
