Installing the W.R.Long 3rd function remote. Anyone alreadyi found a convenient source of power for the joy stick? 10 amps desired. Thanks, Rich

I tapped off the keyed wire on the back of the ignition switch for my added lighting. Easy to get to. I bought inline fuse holders at auto parts. You can fuse them any size.

Thanks. That confirms what I was thinking. There is a post on the ignition key that goes hot when the key is turned on. I am planning of tapping into that with a fused wire to power the remote valve.

In case others want a source. ON the back of the ingnition switch are 6 posts. 3 were used, and one of the other 3 provided 12V when the key was turned on. Used it to power the 3rd function, and is working fine. The YELLOW wire in the pic is the one that provided a 12V source. Fused the wire down to the 3rd function valve.

My preference would be to use the switched source as the trigger for a relay. That way you are only pulling minimum current through the ignition switch.

so I understand that a relay would be the best. Not sure what to buy to do that. I'm assuming I would run a wire from the battery to the relay and charge the relay through the ignition switch. Do you have recommended parts for that? I am certainly willing to rewire for the long term benefits.

You can get a single pole dual throw (spdt) relay at your local auto parts store for cheap. Here is a simplified wiring diagram. Hope this helps.

Jaydee325. Thanks for the info That is pretty straightforward. I will put that on my list of upcoming projects. Since I will fuse the circuit at 10 amps, I'm assuming I can use a 20 amp or 30 amp relay, as the fuse the restrictive factor. That sound correct? Again I understand the relay circuit, just actually have never done one. Thanks, Rich

Get one with the built in diode to prevent back EMF from the field collapsing.
