Sears Selling Craftsman Brand

I hate to see Sears go down like they have.

I have never owned a mower that wasn't Craftsman brand. That amounts to 3 mowers since 1979 and two of them are still in use. The first one would still run but I didn't want to put a 3rd deck on it. Tried to order a mulch kit for my zero turn through them a while back and had one heck of a bad experience. Their web site said it was in stock and it didn't ship for a couple of weeks so I tried to cancel the order. They charged my card as soon as the order was placed and would not let me cancel it. Told me I could return it to the store after I received it. 2 weeks later they canceled the order and told me they never had it to begin with so they used my money for free for several weeks.

I have a C3 tool set I love and have expanded. I purchased what was supposed to be the same set for work and there was no comparison to the drill I have at home. It was a serious POS in comparison.

Sad Sad times for previous devoted Sears customers.

Sears in the local mall here closed last year. Kmart closed 10 years ago, Kmart 14 miles away closed last year. Macy's in the the local mall closing this year. Only anchor left in the mall is JC Penny. How the heck they are still open is beyond me.

Viva' Amazon!

When they started switching the handtools to China made I stopped buying them. I did get some missing pieces off Ebay brand new and made in USA. Also some sockets still made here but getting hard to find. As mentioned, why buy China tools from Sears when you can buy China made for less elsewhere. I do have a C3 impact gun/angle grinder setup that is really good. They seem to have messed up Lands End too, I think that one has been spun-off somewhat recently. Most of the appliances I have bought in the past 30 years have come from Sears, decent prices when on sale. Also used to buy appliance parts from them too but now I can find the same cheaper elsewhere with less hassle. I don't see any stores in my state going away yet and I think there's still a Kmart here. My craftsman ratchet needs new guts, I really like the Gearwrench ratchets my son has.

We just bought a new gas stove for our kitchen remodel from Sears. Was delivered yesterday. Wife and I were talking this morning about the potential long-term issues regarding warranty should Sears go belly-up. Their service has been very good over the years, which is the only thing that's kept us going back. We're not losing any Sears stores yet, but 3 STL-area Kmarts are going.

They did at one point, at least the one I went to as a kid did. When they decided to hire Rosie O'donnel to be their spokes person she made them drop the guns and ammo. I think they did bring back some but not like it used to be.
K-Mart had the same model that WalMart uses when it comes to sporting goods and other "non-core" departments. If there is any serious local competition then they will keep their departments at that "minimum". What you get depends on what is around them.

Sears doesn't make anything (including your stove). They merely market stuff. I'm sure your warranty will be protected should you ever need it.

The Sears traditional catalog business was a low-tech (no-tech?) forerunner of today's online shopping. Millions of customers shopped from the Sears catalog.

If only Sears management had been able to see the future, they could have repurposed the catalog business as an extraordinary online enterprise.

With there catalog customer database they quickly could have become Amazon.

I have vivid memories of the seasonal and especially Christmas Sears catalog coming in the mail. I've spent hours as a kid going thru those catalogs. I actually miss those times. A purchase meant something. Most items bought today are set aside tomorrow. Not then!!!!
