1/2 Ton Pick up vs. Kubota L3710 for snow plow, etc?

I would go with the truck , you can move faster and go to other locations if need be . I have had plows on 1/2 tons , 3/4 tons . jeeps , and small toyota trucks . Plowing doesnt hurt the truck , the driver does . I only use tractors for clean up and piling snow . I prefer heat and a radio with the truck

I have a "cabbed" tractor!

I've used Silverado 1500 regular cab, long box trucks to plow with since 1989. I'm on my fourth one now -- my first V6!

These trucks have proven to be excellent for snow plowing. Very durable and reliable. I do 18 residential properties several times per year. (We live in Snow Country, northwest of Syracuse along Lake Ontario.)

Use good judgement and good snow tires, as well as ballast at the rear of the bed, and I bet you'll be fine.

Sorry if it has been explained. The op never mentioned snow conditions and circumstances. I sometimes plow my thousand foot laneway in an emergency (If a 2wd has to get in or out) or out of lazyness instead of blowing. Plowing is more fun too in my opinion. But I always spend much more time later blowing away the windrow, because I will be screwed if I don't.

The snow will drift in to the height of the windrow and I won't have anymore place to push snow.,

I'm getting older and don't do cold well .
For over 30 yrs now I have used a full sized 1/2 ton pick up with plow.
I've had a tractor with a back blade for the last 20 yrs & haven't even thought about using it for snow until this yr.

The truck will still do the real plowing, my drive, neighbors, & private road, am setting up tractor to do touch up & detail work.
My plow truck is dedicated to plowing & hauling wood on my property. It doesn't get licensed or insured.

Yes, but I bet 1 tractor would of lasted those 29 years.

Yes, but has it been the same truck for 30 years?
In snow country where salt is used, trucks don't last. Although many people use them (1/2 tons included) with no problems. They're usually faster (in most cases), and warm and comfy.

Good comment about a tractor lasting 29 years.

My main snow removal tractor is a 1971 Massey Ferguson 135 which we bought new. Still going strong.

The only problem with the Massey is it is not as handy as the Silverado for the 20,000 miles a year I drive doing work, errands and play.

he suspension on todays half tons is sooooooo soft. 15 years ago, todays half tons would of been called 1/4 tons. They just aren't intended to do a lot of severe work like plowing is. They will do it, but for how long and at what expense?

I have a 3/4 Diesel plow truck and the big plow really beats even my 3/4 ton up.

I lost my neighbor who used to plow our lane, so I'll have to take care of myself now. I have a Chevy Silverado 1500 4wd, 4.8L V8 standard cab 8' bed truck an a Kubota L3710 with standard FEL (no SSQA yet) and extra hydraulic on the back. I live in Central PA, so we don't get a whole lot of snow each winter, but we usually get 1-3 Noreaster storms /year that drop 12-24".

SO: Would I be better off putting a plow on the pick up truck or getting a plow or other implement(s) for the tractor? Thanks in advance for any input.
I fall into the tractor camp overall. I plowed several thousand feet of driveways for years with an L3410 equipped with a FEL, 7' rear blade, and rear blower for deep snows we get every few years. Getting older now, I don't like freezing so I now have a cabbed tractor.
I guess for me, it comes down to 2 issues : comfort, and the absolute guarantee of having the equipment to get the job done. A properly equipped tractor will handle the snows that keep all of the pickup trucks at home.
