That's a Dolmar 421. And I fuï½king love it. Great saw. 42cc, super light, cuts like a 50cc, and unbelievably easy to start. Like so easy it makes me laugh half the time I start it. Sometimes I shut it off just to start again.

I'm a Stihl guy normally. I used to have an ms361, now have an 036, ms460, and a ported ms660. I'd love to own an ms241cm, which competes with the Dolmar 421, but that saw costs $550! My Dolmar was $310 OTD.


Edited to add: it's a split case magnesium pro grade saw. Does have a plastic handlebar, and comes with a spur sprocket instead of a rim, but can be converted easily. Nate at performance outdoor equipment in Ohio is a great guy to buy these saws and parts from.

And... The other tool in the pic is also a new favorite. It's a 30" logrite hookaroon. This one says Stihl and is orange, but it's the same tool. Worth every penny. I had a hookaroon before. This is better.

I didn't see all this post the first time lol, I have never used a Dolmar, I'm a Husqvarna guy but own Stihls also. My saws of choice is my 660 magnum with a .404 chain and 25' bar and my MS 193, I also have a 455 rancher and a 460xp I believe it's called. But I must admit the Stihl saws are the only ones I grab now, the 193 is like a feather and cuts small stuff under 12 inches very fast and the 660 does a fantastic job on big stuff. I also take a cordless dremel to sharpen blades in the bush so I can keep cutting all day.

I also had a mcculloch eager beaver and still have but don't use McCullough 1-42 87cc, those saws opened me up to more cutting but dang the 1-42 was hairy lol no safeties at all and the exhaust made my eyes burn when you got close to the ground or anything that redirected the down flow exhaust, let's just say when I got the money to buy the Stihl's I was a happy camper.

Only saw I bought new was a 35cc Poulan pro, I traded it for my 1-42 a week later, did not like the Poulan saw at all.

My cousin has a 021, 038, 660, 455 rancher and a 460 Stihl, I have ran all those as well.

Sadly I haven't really cut wood in over a year, in the last 3 years only have cut up a dozen small trees (6-18' trees). A property I used to live at I cut everyday all winter long and burned around 10-12 cords a season by my estimate, but I only lived there 3 years. Now my saws just sit but I don't wana get rid of them lol.

No moisture at all. This is dry seasoned osage orange. It will burn down without much sparking but once its hot it will spark like this when adding extra oxygen to the mix such as opening the fireplace doors like I did. It sparked like this for about 2 minutes before it calmed down and started burning normal again. You also have to watch how much of this you burn at a time. It burns hotter than anything else around here and has been known to ruin cheaper made stoves.

Hedge around here burns hot like that, there's another wood around here that burns like coal, we call it pig wood and the largest tree of this wood I saw was around 12'. That 12 inch base around 15ft tall tree dulled my saw by the time I cut it up, the wood is hard as a rock, it burns like coal green or dried, I should find out what the tree is.

Hedge around here burns hot like that, there's another wood around here that burns like coal, we call it pig wood and the largest tree of this wood I saw was around 12'. That 12 inch base around 15ft tall tree dulled my saw by the time I cut it up, the wood is hard as a rock, it burns like coal green or dried, I should find out what the tree is.

Osage orange (Hedge) is pretty rough on chains as well. It's not uncommon to see sparks when cutting. Its worth the effort though. Burns hot and for a long time. The coal bed alone will keep the fireplace warm for a long time.

I have cut my fair share of hedge also, never knew the real name of the tree, there's a lot of rumors I have heard about the hedge apples, like if you cut them in half they work as a spider repellant and there's a few others I can't remember I have heard over the years.

I've heard the spider rumor as well but never verified it. They do make good targets for shooting.

I second that, I tried to eat part of a hedge Apple once, I cut a small section out of the core. If I were to describe it, felt like chewing fiberglass lol was not good and I don't suggest it.
