Anyone own one that can give me the good and bad?...Please no Ford/Dodge gas/diesel thing I am well aware..Looking at a High country 2500 HD Duramax...My last diesel was pre current emissions. Yes I will pull with it..

Any honest opinions are welcome before I buy this..6000 miles. Buyers remorse thing with the previous owner, he couldn't afford it I guess. Getting a pretty good deal.

My son has a 2015 3500HD long box crew cab he bought new with 60,000 miles on it now and he's happy with it. Most the miles put on were pulling a 35 ft. trailer with 3 slides 8,500 lbs. gets good fuel mileage considering the size of the truck and trailer. Empty the mileage is double that of my 6 lt. gas.

I have a 2500HD Duramaxx LTZ one step down from the high country. Just turned 100,000mi. About 1/3 of that is with a 24ft box trailer. I'm happy with it over all. There have been a couple of recalls make sure they have been done.

I get 9-11mpg towing depending on terrain and my right foot. Unloaded I get 18-21mpg. Roughly 5000mi per fill up on DEF. I buy it at truck stops rather than in a jug. Much less expensive that way.

I've been religious abut maintenance and that pays off big time. Rotate the tires every 5000mi and they can last as long as 60,000mi. Not bad for a truck over all.

We have a fleet of Dmax trucks at my company. All are crew cab 3500 SRW 4x4. Currently we have north of 50. Some are 2011 and 2015 along with a 2008.

The 2008 and 2015 have all been pretty good. The 2011's not so much.

Back to the 2015's you are asking about. We probably have 25 and only 3 I know of had any real issues. All 3 have had leaking rear main seals. Other than that I remember a wheel bearing and a few other small items.

Just turned 36k trouble free miles on my 2015 2500HD LTZ CCSB, I still LOVE driving it! We average 18mpg but have gotten 22mpg on long highway trips and the DIC actually recorded 25mpg once!

Our last one with a leaking seal got fixed in KY. The tech took the truck out for a test drive and all was fine. A day later the employee it was assigned to got a call from our safety department about excessive speed.

Come to find out the tech ran the truck for a half hour at nearly 100 MPH. All our vehicles have GPS tracking. Needless to say we will not be using that dealer again.

Holy cow, 100 MPH...I probably don't really "need" a diesel, but this landed in my lap...Plenty of commute time to regen I guess.

Some one told me that 100mph is easy to get to in these beast's, not that I've ever tried

Nope...not me...

Have you driven it yet Tim?

Make sure that you get the 2 1/2 to 2 adapter for the receiver. Most of us still have the 2" hitches. We love our Duramax's very stout pulling machines

Good point, but they are readily available if it's missing.

I have a 2015 Chevy 2500HD LTZ with duramax.

I have had zero issues, get 16-18 MPG around town and 20-22 mpg on the interstate. When towing 8k-9k lbs I still average 12-13 in the hills of VT.

The interior is sharp and comfortable and has every feature I could want. The LED lights in the bed are definitely handy.

For towing performance it is awesome, especially with the exhaust brake. When I picked up my tractor we had the trailer loaded with a 5' brush hog on the pallet forks with a landscape rake on top. Bucket under the loader arms. 5' Box blade on the 3PH with a 700lb rototiller in the bed.

Lost the trailer brakes before we even started. Towed the load perfectly two hours through the mountains with tow/haul mode and exhaust brake on and never had to use the truck brakes except when coming to the end of a complete stop for stop signs and traffic lights.

If I were you though, I would wait a few months and get one of the 2017 HD models with the new duramax engine. Its pushing 445 HP and 910 lb-ft with a whole new air intake system to maximize performance and lower engine temp under heavy load in extreme conditions

I hate to be negative, I had a 2016 2500HD with the Duramax loved everything about the truck except the steering. it has digital steering and around town it was great but out on the interstate with or with out a load it seems that I was constantly correcting, the best way to describe it is I felt like I had a low tire. four dealers later and no fix I traded it. before that I had a 2008 GMC with the Duramax and should of never gotten rid of it great truck.
