Good Morning! 74F @ 11:45AM. Abundant sunshine. High 79F. Winds light and variable.
I'm not what you'd call a good teacher, Eric, as I lose patience with folks that can't manage to "get it" in one go. Most of what I write about doing things is so's I'll remember what I did later, and if it helps someone else, so much the better!
Nice work, Ed! Sounds like a plot right out of The Great Escape! Good luck on the trip, it sounds like you'll both have a lot of fun. But it would probably be a good idea to leave the starting fluid at home.
England is on sale right now, at least as far as the exchange rate goes. I think all that will settle down once the Brexit panic is over, so if you've ever wanted to go now would be a very good time. I spent five weeks there in '85, mostly staying at pubs and B'n'Bs out in the countryside, riding a Norton motorcycle I'd flown over with. Coal to Newcastle that was! Wonderful people, great beer, but the food? Not so much unless it was Indian or fish'n'chips. Be fun to go back and watch the racing on the Isle of Mann again...
I sure miss the changing leaves and apple cider fresh from the Appalachian Mountain foothills of southeastern Ohio where I was raised. And bushels of red and yellow delicious apples. They smelled as good as they tasted! Thanks for reviving that very pleasant old memory, Ron!
Well Kyle, looks like Finnly's continuing to develop her form, and perhaps provide some guidance for the next family vacation? By the way, there's an Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas, too.
Finished polishing the van with 3000 grit wet on the DA, then walked around visiting with my woodcutting buddy discussing the fire and all the manzanita on the ground. He arrived in a new-to-him '95 F250, a replacement for a slightly newer one that had developed a main seal leak that he didn't want to fix. The '95 was in beautiful condition, and with the addition of an Edge tuner, ran great as well. It's also 4WD, so he may be able to get it down the hill to make loading of the firewood easier. And yes, he wanted all he could carry! Just need to wait for cooler weather, as the steep hillside will make for some heavy work.
Switched over to the polishing machine and rubbing compound, and managed to finish the front, driver's side, and rear before I ran out of daylight. Should easily finish the rest and get through the final polish today, but maybe not the hand glaze. Probably best to wait on that until it gets back from the mechanic's anyway, as every vehicle I've seen down there was loaded with greasy fingerprints.
Was up most of the night again finishing the OS installer download and setting up a throw away drive for returning the laptops for repair. Yeah, both of them. It seems Apple has issued a Repair Extension for the video boards in both machines, so I spent the last hour on the phone with them registering for the program and arranging for shipping boxes. They'll also take care of the bloated battery on one of them, all at no cost to me. Not bad warranty service for five year old machines!
