The rattle in my car has now been diagnosed as a bad steering rack. Turning the wheel back and forth hard does make a clunk that should not be there. All the tie rods, etc are tight as can be. So....another 900 dollars into the British economy...actually that's installed, which I thought was pretty reasonable, considering what other things cost on this car. Maybe I'll get it back later this week. Thank goodness for reliable trucks...
Had similar problem with our 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx. Took it to a local mechanic. He installed a grease fitting on end of steering tube and used that to grease steering assembly. $85 and no more rattle. GM pickups from same vintage had same problem. Easiest fix was to put a hose clamp on end of tube where steering shaft comes out.

I was posting in someone elses UTV thread. We were looking at same ones.

Last week i test drove polaris 570, also looked at honda 700. Going back sometime to drive the honda, but am leaning towards polaris with bench seat for 3.

Ex-hurricane Nicole has eased off, deciding to go north and give us a miss. They say she will still be making some formidable waves for the boaters and surfers off the west coast. A side effect is that we are now sat under an area of high pressure and that should see us stay relatively dry for a for a few days.

Eric, don't blame me for the 50/50 acetone/ATF penetrating oil formula. It's been around for a while, and documented by some testing by a magazine a while ago. About a third of the way down this page there's more info.

RNG, you still get full credit for passing on the knowledge. The world needs good teachers just as much as it does inventors.

Thanks Drew for helping to keep Jaguar/Tata in business. Any contributions to our economy gratefully received, particularly at the moment when the money markets keep having a hissy fit over the value (or lack of) of the pound.

Need to dig out about 2" of dirt for the pipe to get through so am heading to lowes for a piece of 1 1/2 plastic pipe. Will cut the first foot or so on half and make a long skinny shovel and will just scoop it out.

Ed, good luck with the soil removal. I once made a similar plastic pipe scoop to get rid of wasps that had made a nest right inside a bailer. Poured ant powder onto the scoop, poked the pipe inside, then rotated 180 degrees to drop it on the nest entrance - and ran !

66 going up to 82 today, second to last warm day here, cooler weather coming in

When RNG gets tired of his delicate German motorcycles and wants to really man up with American iron,
I found a bike for him: Confederate Motorcycles | Combat Collection
seems to be a bit of wretched excess....or rolling art work, take your pick.
Reminds me of Mad Max a bit...I wonder if matching white sheets are packed with it....;)

so now would be a good time to travel to England? I mean any time is a good time to visit the country where people drive on the wrong side of the road, eat breakfast pudding made of blood and are constantly muttering Here Here! and Roger That and where are my Wellies?

I've been to London once, now want to go see the countryside. Keep the light on Eric, we are all coming over. Soon too....better tell your wife.

Now if only I could afford to go over and back on the QEII. A life dream for me, but geez is that trip expensive.

63 working its way up to 83. A real scorcher yesterday hitting 91. Felt food outside, though, since humidity is low, and the sun is lower.

Now Drew, you know you have some Rebel DNA in you, and need that motorcycle. Plenty of warm days left for riding down to Emerald Isle, and there's room under that shelter for it, too.

Picked up a load of lumber at HD last evening with my son, after picking through quite a bit, and cutting two bundles open and commandeering one of their step ladders to get up high on the rack (they had a new load of ladders laying on the floor in front of the lumber). You gotta do that with prices like this...for example, one piece was $23 (of course it was a 6x6x10 treated). Splurged and picked up a laser level...never used one but believe it will make things much easier, plus I have another project for it coming up.

Ed, glad you're about to break through on your tunneling. I kept hoping you'd hit a gold deposit or something.

Buppies, our local weather just showed a bit of snow forecast for our northern mountains when this cold front comes in tomorrow.

Coffee is done brewing. 54° with light rain this morning. Heading to 56° with off and on rain all day. Had a good time yesterday touring a couple apple cider mills. Nothing like fresh apple cider. Not much planned today.
Good Mornings All.
