Good Morning! 67F @ 10:45AM. Sunny. High 78F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.
Good news that the dealer is willing to correct the problem, Drew. Just curious though: Was a permit was required? One would have been here for anything bigger than 10'x10'. Seems like a building inspector would have caught and flagged the issue. But maybe not, as my last two inspectors seemed happy to sign off the permit without even seeing the work! If you do end up reinforcing it, consider using pieces of steel pipe sourced from the junk yard. They'll last forever and will end up stiffer, and will likely be less expensive, too.
What a relief not having that tree hanging over any longer, Hawkeye. And especially since it required no effort or expense on your part, thanks to the kindness of your father!
Eric, don't blame me for the 50/50 acetone/ATF penetrating oil formula. It's been around for a while, and documented by some testing by a magazine a while ago. About a third of the way down
this page there's more info.
That's some impressive marksmanship (pipesmanship? :laughing

on the pipe tunneling, Ed. And clever tool design, too!
Yes, the tire pro-rated warranties only work toward the purchase of the same or nearly the same tire. So if you weren't happy with the tires to begin with, the last thing you want is another set of them, right? So what good's the warranty?
I used to joke "Drive a British vehicle and walk with pride" but maybe it it should be "Drive a British vehicle and end up in a Ford", right Drew? But seriously, good they found the thunk, and hopefully it's the correct one. And a new one doesn't surface to take its place. The owner of the shop isn't working on an addition or swimming pool for his house, is he?:laughing::laughing:
Mostly, sounds like your timing was perfect!
Wheew, glad that job is over! Finished applying the bed liner to the inside of the wheel wells on the van, something I'd not been looking forward to. Worst part was cleaning up the surfaces with a wire wheel in the angle grinder; dust and grit went EVERYWHERE! I was worried that the two part bed liner would harden before I could finish brushing it on, so broke it down into three batches and it was fine. Even got the brush to last through the whole job by cleaning it in lacquer thinner after each batch (but still tossed it out at the end of the job). All the wells are now a uniform semigloss black, but that'll only last until the first trip down the dusty driveway, when the color will merge in with the dirty color of the rest of the chassis.
Also got the NAS set up last night, and the software it came with made it easy to get the drives formatted and set it up for Apple's TimeMachine backup software. I was rather surprised that 500Gb of data would take 19 hours to transfer, but then the source computer is on an 802.11N wireless network, and that really slows things down. The replacement 1 Tb SDD also arrived, and is now being cloned from the original. The original will go back into a USB housing to be the second off site storage backup for that laptop. And I now believe that one of the glitches I was seeing with that laptop was a bug in the OS software, as I triggered it yesterday on the bedroom laptop. I was dragging a window from the big display onto the laptop screen, and accidently overshot up to the top corner of the laptop display. The screen split itself in two parts and was crossed with hash lines, while the big display was fine. I brought up the display control panel and changed the resolution on the laptop display and it went back to normal. Changing it again to the correct resolution got it back to normal. So I'll be digging around on the Internet in the next few days to see if this is a known problem and if there's a fix. The USPS web page sez that the battery was just delivered, so I'll have that in by the end of the day as well.
Back to polishing the paint on the van today, hoping to get through the 3000 grit pads and start compounding with the buffer. It'll be interesting to see if I have enough compounding stuff in the bottle...
Happy Hump Day everyone!
