That is a neat idea - never seen that before. Probably work good for fir & tamarack. Ponderosa pine, on the other hand, can be hard to split with a hydraulic splitter.

I found the easiest way to split firewood is to hire a local teen to do it!

I've got an old tire I was saving for that purpose but I pretty much only split kindling by hand.

BTW those Fiskars splitting axes really do work. I have their larger X27 and the smaller X25 I use for splitting kindling. Way less work and lighter than swinging a maul.

I'm hooked on Fiskars axes and secateurs/branch 'loppers'. The axe handles come in different, readily available, lengths so that you can find one in your own 'size'. :thumbsup:
