Here is some good news:

VIGILANT CITIZEN USING GOOGLE AND TSCRA CRIME WATCH RESULTS IN RECOVERY OF STOLEN TRACTOR
TSCRA Special Ranger John Cummings recovered a tractor Aug. 15 that was stolen this past January from a rancher in Nowata. Information is still being sought regarding a Honeywell generator that was stolen at the same time as the tractor.

A local man spotted the tractor in a pasture located west of Nowata off of SH 60 and felt the circumstances were suspicious. He took some photographs of the tractor and its data plate, then went home and performed an internet search about stolen tractors in the Nowata area that resulted in a TSCRA Crime Watch describing the tractor in detail.

The information had been posted just after the theft was reported. The witness contacted TSCRA headquarters via email and the information was sent to Cummings, who took the initial report on the theft.

Cummings met the witness at the location and confirmed that it was the stolen tractor reported in January. The Nowata County Sheriffç—´ Office responded to the scene and the tractor was recovered. Also located at the scene was a small utility cart that had a generator on it at the time of the theft. The generator, a Honeywell model 6500, was not found and remains listed as stolen.

å…¸his is a great example of how social media and the internet can aid law enforcement in the recovery of stolen property, said Cummings. é„*ccording to the witness in this case, the TSCRA Crime Watch listings were the only public forum he found that listed the tractor as stolen and he responded by contacting TSCRA immediately.

In an email to TSCRA, the citizen stated, 的 have located a tractor that I suspected was stolen and I Googled 都tolen tractor in Nowata County and found an article where this tractor was listed and the serial numbers matched. The only mention of it I found on the internet was a TSCRA article. I知 calling one of your special agents and the Sheriff痴 office this afternoon to report it. Kudos to your organization.

TSCRA would like to thank the helpful citizen, Nowata County Sheriff Rick Miller and Lt. Mark Wright for their assistance in the recovery of this tractor.

Anyone with further information on the recovered tractor, missing generator or possible suspect(s) should contact Cummings at 918-342-0888 or TSCRAç—´ Operation Cow Thief hotline at 888-830-2333. Individuals reporting information may choose to remain anonymous.

Good news. Question, do they hang tractor thieves the way they used to do horse thieves?

Sounds good, but what was the final outcome? We have had such cases where the owners could not get back their property for one reason or another. Or there were reasons that no one was charged. Or the property was found on a reservation.

In this day and age, I am surprised that the person taking the pictures of the suspicious equipment was not charged with tresspassing.

"A local man spotted the tractor in a pasture located west of Nowata off of SH 60 and felt the circumstances were suspicious."

I wonder what was suspicious about a tractor parked on pasture land?

I was thinking the same thing. Tractors are often sitting in pastures.

The person was probably familiar with the property and/or the owner and knew it was unusual to see equipment there.

Most likely that was it.

I investigated a case years back in a small town south of San Antonio where some neighbors called the local police chief because someone had a new truck parked at their house and the house was occupied by some very poor people who had no visible legal means to have a new truck in the driveway for about a week. They had never seen it be driven or leave the property. The PD ran the plates and it was reported stolen out of San Antonio. They kept an eye on it for a few more days and it never left the drive way. So they had the city water department go ask the house occupant if they could move the truck so the city could get some equipment into the back of the property to test some lines.

The way the driveway was set up the only thing they could do was back it out into the street. When they did, they were arrested in the stolen truck with the factory key.

When I was a kid we parked a boat, motor, and trailer under a shed on my aunt's property. They were all stolen and my dad reported this to law enforcement. They said a man had already told them the boat was under the shed. The man wasn't authorized to be on the property and had already given my grandfather trouble by parking on the road to hunt birds between his property and my aunt's. That story immediately came to my mind when I read this one.
