Another case of people adapting a specific brand name (Bush Hog) to becomes a general term, even when the product (rotary mower) is another brand.  Off the top of my head I can think of other examples:
Band Aid instead of adhesive bandages
Kleenex instead of facial tissue
Romex instead of non-metallic building wire
Xerox (noun) instead of copy machines (Xerox (verb) instead of copy).
Allen and Crescent wrench instead of hex and adjustable wrench.
Vise-grips instead of lockable pliers.
etc...
