Yanmar 1500D hydraulic fluid leaking.

Couldn't help you with where, just that most tractors have a bellhousing drain to keep the clutch free of oil from leaky input shaft seals and rear mains.

Well don't know what's going on with my Yanmar 1500D. Found out that the housing on the transmission seal had been machined and it did not have the original seal. Ordered a new housing for the transmission seal, put a new seal and a new gasket. Didn't leak for about 30 minutes, drove the tractor for about 200 yards and it started leaking again. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Maybe a cracked transmission? Maybe another seal somewhere in the transmission? Help!!

yup, tranny input shaft seal.. your input shaft is just a driveshaft like some old farmalls.

and yeah.. rear main is the rear main engine seal.

I'd still check that bellhousing drain..
Sir if it's the rear main would it be oil instead of hydraulic fluid??

Yes, rear main leaks are engine oil.

It's not oil that's leaking, it's hydraulic fluid. Now I just used my tractor and it didn't lead unless I'm going downhill and it leaks until I gun it to load the bucket. When I'm loading the bucket it stops leaking. Now what I saw in the fluid that is leaking because I put a cut out piece of hydraulic fluid plastic gallon (cut in half to catch some of the fluid leaking out) and I saw some metal grinding in the fluid. Is there a bearing somewhere that might have gone bad and causing this to leak, maybe in my hydraulic system??

Tranny input seal could have died. Lots of options on bearings

If a bearing is bad, it lets it hog out the associated shaft seal.

Up there at the bellhousing, you pretty much have 2 places oil can leak.. rea main from engine, or trans input shaft.

I guess it must be a bearing in my tranny (I think) although it shifts ok unless I put the seal on wrong but I doubt that. I think it has to be a bad bearing because it works good when I am working uphill but when I am working downhill it leaks a lot. Thanks, now to find the bad bearing. Where should I start looking, in the hydraulic system or in the tranny? The tranny first?

I know you like to keep going to the hyds system for some reason. it really really really sounds like you want to take your hyds apart.. so.. you might as well start there, as you mention it in each post.

once you get that done, then come back and we can talk about your tranny input shaft.

going down hill puts oil against the seal.. if the seal is bad.. that's when it leaks.

as to a bearing be bead.. that's conjecture. We KNOW a seal is bad because of the leak. We are GUESSING it is a bearing because of the bad seal, and metal. it could still just be a chewed up seal that was installed incorrectly that then wadded up and spun, etc... won't know anything till you get the bellhousing open to see the input shaft.

But no problem.. you go take your hyds apart and get that itch scratched.. then we can work on your input shaft.
