This dead grass is the exact outline of the tank. It has been a bit dry and there's only 6" or so of dirt above the tank but we've had worse dry spells and never seen this.

Kind of odd, at least it isn't leaking!

Nope. Bone dry.

That's normal heat from the tank is drying out the dirt as there's very little cover over the tank. Another words your tank is working.

Yep, and if you didn't know exactly where it was before you sure do now! :)

I found the opposite to be true regarding my French Field... always green during times of drought.

Same here, mine looks the same when it is dry.

Thanks all. 1st I've seen that happen. Guess I need to water. Maybe we'll get rain again someday. Seemed like it would never stop in spring.

And yep, we had the same thing in Navarro County, Texas.

Reminds me of our septic tank days. Ours did the same thing; a water sprinkler every other day will take care of it...or put some more dirt on top.

Salt from water softener , chlorine from laundry and antibiotic soap is killing the vegatation. My system shows a distinct green outline .

If it's that dry I would worry about the tank settling and braking the inlet or outlet pipe.

Mine's exactly the same. You probably have risers installed to make it easier to access the tank lids, and that's a good thing. They are usually 12-24" tall, your actual tank is much lower.

Having the tank pumped will require just removing dirt over the risers, not sure that adding dirt is the best idea.

Mine looks the same way also. It has 7" of soil over it and bluegrass seldom grows over it. Crabgrass and a few weeds is about all i can grow there.

Try monkey grass. It has worked well on top of and around my tank.

Would be a bit of work, mix some hydrosource granules into the soil. It's a polymer that will absorb about 100X it's weight in water and helps to keep enough moisture in the soil between normal watering. Interesting stuff, a half teaspoon will soak up a 12 oz. glass of water.

Mine looks similar most years, including right now. I usually point it out to my son and wife, and act surprised as I ask "why does the grass look so crappy there?" They just roll their eyes at me now.

I watered and will try to remember to do it every couple days.

Thanks all. This is what makes TBN so great.

Heck, I don't even bother... it's the "rustic look".

In fact I just had it pumped a fortnight ago (first time in 20 years) and it took me a couple of minutes to dig the access hatch clear.
