Not looking for a cab tractor, but have a a 7040 in the family with 225 hrs, barn kept, that is part of an estate of a relative. They know I'm looking and are willing to give me a 'great deal.' I'm thinking if I can help them out, give it a try, and if it just won't work use it toward the purchase of one that will. I'm going to be doing timber work more than pasture, with a grapple and a skidder winch.

Tractor has a loader.....looks like an 1153 from the picture and in great shape. Looking on Tractor house, looks like they are listed for high 20s to low 30s. What would a great deal be, and if it didn't work, what would be realistic for a trade value?

Thanks for your help.

I use my M7040 for timber work as well. Can't be beaten, especially with a set of forks or a grapple. It is a real workhorse.

Mid $20 K would be a great deal considering only 224 hours. Can't comment on trade value as I'm not a dealer or considering a different tractor.

Might be better to let the family agree on a price and then decide if it is a price you're good with. Might prevent hard feelings.... Just a thought.

That tractor would be listed for 35k plus here. Very desirable model. No pollution junk like the 7060...

I think you'd be getting a deal in the 25 to 30 range for sure.

Anything under 30k would be a good deal I'd think.

I go pick it up on Monday. I went with the 'tell me what you need' and it worked out for everyone. Good to keep it in the family. Thanks for the input.

I'm predicting that you'll really enjoy working with it. Mine has been great.

Can't wait to put it to work. It is really set up well. Gonna take some time and practice attaching the bucket to the quick detach but happy I have it. Image1465214946.573770.jpg

The M Series are very easy to attach/detach stuff to the FEL, we use bucket, pallet forks, grapple and tree puller. The whole loaders comes off easily too. I really like them; believe you will too.

The QA is a bit hard to see from the seat for sure. Just make sure the angle of the QA plates match the rear bucket angle, or a little bit more. Then inch forward as the FEL is slowly lifted.

Line up by looking at the center of the bucket. You'll get it.

As TripleR implies, you'll soon be looking for things to attach to the front...especially if you have hydraulics up there. I don't but don't really need a grapple.

Mine are: forks, fork frame with weights, boom, flat plates for straightening wood piles and adding to an implement to make it usable on the front end, log carrier. Here are some that I photographed (click for larger image):

Thanks for the pics of attachments. Did you home fabricate any of your your GW? I've got three remotes so I'm good to go on that front. Any specific recommendations for a root grapple?

The weight carrier for the front and the log carrier were homemade with forklift frames bought at Ritchie Bros. Auction.

The log grapple on the front of the carrier is for small trees. I also have a momma size and a papa size grapple. It makes the tractor look like a narwhal but it sure make bucking into firewood easy. Just set the FEL so the log is at waist level and zip, zip, zip....

The bigger trees have to be cut into 20' lengths and a substantial counterweight is needed on the back:

No recommendations for a root grapple. My L48 TLB takes care of roots and stumps in the orchards.
