Memorial Day is for Flagpoles

I got a used light pole from the local municipality when they upgraded.. like others have said put the pulley on top and ran the lines down then made a template in plywood of the bolt spacing on the bottom plate and used a sonotube put rebar in then put threaded rod in with a J on the end (won't turn then) in sonotube with nuts and washers above the plywood so rods would set in concrete with correct spacing/placement.. standing the darn thing up was the challenge!

Here's what the repurposed light pole looks like after shopping for flag pole parts.

Here's the flagpole that my brother and I installed at my ranch in Tehama County (June 2008). He was visiting and wanted to do a project together.

He bought the 25 ft telescoping pole on Amazon for $150 or so and had it shipped to the ranch.
I bought the flags from the flag guy at the farm show in Colusa, CA (Feb 2008). About $25 each
The pole sets in a 24" long PVC pipe buried in the ground.
Built a small planting area around the pole.
Added a solar powered light/battery unit to illuminate the flags at night.

The flags lasted about 2 years before the winds pretty much shredded them.

Had been looking for a long time for a tapered 25-30 foot flagpole. Didn't want to pay the $1000+ for one. Came across a guy moving....$200, came from a school. Felt lucky to have gotten it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. $1000 is way too much but I want a nice solid one. Good work!
