Well, it has been a couple weeks so I thought I owed everyone an update or rather a conclusion. After reading all the advice I decided to go with the friend's
B2320 but when last I was on the forum I had not closed the deal. Long story short, it nearly fell through but in the end, my friend found the machine he needed to replace the Kubota so he put the mower deck on and drove it over for a test run.
As I wrote earlier in the thread, I have a short but steep hill that will tip my Poulan riding mower if I don't lean waaay off the edge when side-hilling to mow either side of a shallow drain ditch. We put the B in Medium and lowered the deck which when spinning is amazingly quiet compared to my little rider. Off to the hill, cheeks tight, and the Kubota stuck like glue. I got bold, strapped in and took the steepest part without leaning into the slope and again, the 4 loaded tires held on. I turned the tractor off and wrote a check.
In the end I got the tractor, 60" deck, LA 304 FEL, County Line Trailer Mover, Land Pride LR1660 rake with wheel kit, Land Pride RB1560 rear blade, a 4' Brush Hog, and a set of forks which need to be fabbed for the tractor.
I figured I'd soon be welding up some projects like a cab, the forks, and a few other ideas so I also bought the friend's Miller Passport Plus welder with 3 11 lb spools of wire, helmet, gloves, and the Miller Spoolmate 100 aluminum wire gun with a new spool. For good measure, he threw in an 80 c.f. tank of 75/25 shielding gas. A dual voltage, portable welder which cost $1800 new not including all the extra equipment cost me $950. No bat at all.
I digress.
I park the big-for-me B in the garage and take a seat and think, "What in the **** did I just do?" Did I get caught up in the pictures and videos and forum stories? Did I just spend all this money for something I don't really need just because it was on sale? Oh Lord, am I my wife?
I get the tractor Friday evening.
I'm off to a couple friends' houses to do some carpentry from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and then the boys' martial arts tournament on Sunday. The check has been cashed and I have yet to get 5 minutes on the Kubota.
Get home Sunday, lawn is high, its been raining light and steady ALL day. Screw it, I'm going to mow my lawn and no better time to see how the heavy machine will treat it than during a long soak. I hop on and head out.
Rides really nice. More comfortable than I had noticed before. Sits up high - whoa! Ok, engage the mower, grind the gears, push clutch, engage the mower, "vuuummmm". Big smile. Biiiiggg smile.
Take the hills. Take tightest turn I can on wet grass, tears the sod! Shoot. That's okay though, who mows wet? Look down and see that I'm in 4WD.
Grind - feel stupid - clutch - 2WD. Let's go.
Find nice soggy area with more soil than grass and crank the wheel. Nada. No damage. Clean as a whistle. Biiiiggg smile.
Finish the 45 minute job in 20 (in the rain). Lawn looks better than ever. Cut is beautiful and with no scalping and no clumping. No more bagging!!!!!!!!!
The job is over in 20 minutes!? Hold on a minute, I just got on this thing.
Take a high speed pass down the street to wave at my fans who have braved the weather to see my magnificent contraption. Nada. Their loss.
Park it in the garage. Sit on it for 20 minutes. Go inside and stare at my lawn through the window.
Happy. Grateful.
More photos to come....
