Well the cylinder must not be the whole problem as it still isn't right. I do remember a silicone thingy that was between the steering shaft and the pump. Father in law thought someone had just put silicone in there but after looking at more parts I found this.
HYDRAULIC PUMP SPIDER COUPLING FOR 4500 MAHINDRA TRACTOR

Where does this go and what does it do?

It looks like a seal. I just looked at the parts break down for the steering control unit in the service manual and did not see anything that looked like it.:confused3:

So what exactly is it still doing? did you bleed the air out of the cylenders and refill STF fluid after doing so?

Also when is the last time you replaced the strainer filter in the lift housing?

It won't steer with a load on the front. When I use the bucket to pick up the front of the tractor then am able to turn the wheels, but when the wheels hit the stop, the steering wheel keeps spinning at the same resistance as before. I have put about $800 into it so far replacing parts. I think it is time for a dealer to work on it.

Never I guess, can you elaborate on the strainer.

Well if its a 2wd it has a separate system but your hydraulics have a strainer that's comes out of the lift housing...youll see a rubber boot inbetween it and the hydraulic line coming from the main filter.

Prolly not your issue though... im wondering if the HSU wasn't fully rebuilt and just bad seals replaced... also to bleed the air out you need to pic the tractor front end of the ground with a full power steering reservoir then turn left and right 10 times or so fully... after that check your fluid level because you will have to add some more.

When yall replaced the engine pump did yall put new suction oring in the pipe? sounds like you could be getting air on the suction side of things.

We did replace all orings associated with the pump. I will double check the levels of the oil this evening or tomorrow. I know the pump was fully rebuilt because my FIL, nor I, were aware to not take the pump apart. My FIL took the pump to a dealer who had to put it all back together. Im thinking it is time to take him the whole tractor and let him figure it out. I just don't have the proper tools to properly test the pieces of the tractor.

Good deal good luck with the fix. What dealer do you use? Victoria or Robstown?

I dont think the guy in Robstown has a service department yet. I ordered the pump from them a month or two ago and they are in the process of building a new building. FIL has been taking it all the way to San Antonio. I will have to look up the one in victoria. Where are you located?

Im a good number from you in Navasota. Bills in San Antonio is a good dealer to deal with too. This is the dealer in Victoria Farm Industrial may give them a shout also

I would still change the suction filter on the hyd line if it hasn't been done before while you got it there.

Yes, Bill's is where my FIL was taking it but the place in victoria would be closer.

So there is a seperate filter for the hydraulic fluid that goes to the steering system than the three point and bucket? I guess I need to look up the schematics again. Maybe there is an air leak somewhere? Also, in post #21, do you know where that part is supposed to go?

/ 4500 Mahindra Steering #36
That part goes inbetween the steering shaft and the HSU shaft I believe.. its been a bit since I took one off but I do remember that exact part and putting it back on before putting the shaft back on...

/ 4500 Mahindra Steering #37
sorry for the confusion but the strainer is just a secondary for the hydraulic line.. it wont affect that age tractors steering since the two systems are different. it can affect the dual stage pump that runs both though. Its just a good thing to replace if its never been done.. the pipe will have factory paint if so the new part would be silver or brass colored

I just looked at the parts breakdown for a 4500 2wd. It has a separate tank for the steering system. Filter is in tank. Steering Hyd's is completly separate from tractor hyd system.Still cant find that part your trying to identify. :confused3:

Its not going to show in in the breakdown now that the hsu has an updated unit..

You can still get that part number though they use it in the front crank

007202389C1 updated part number
