john deere 4255 with 280 john deere loader problems

I have a john deer 4255 tractor with a john deere 280 loader that has some problems with the speed the loader operates. Certain moves the loader does is very fast but others are agonizingly slow. Like when i tilt the loader bucket up it goes fast but when i try to dump the bucket it moves real slow. So how do i adjust the speed of the loader?

First, suggest reconnecting the couplers. Sometimes they don't get set just right.

Second, sounds like it is bucket tilt, and you may be out of synch with the regenerative circuit feature. Don't know that, but suspect that.

Third, try switching the FEL lift lines with the tilt lines to check out the valve, if it behaves differently or the same "slow" feature.

Has tractor stand-by hyd pressure be checked lately? What type valve controls loader(ind spool or scv)? What is the loader serial number? Does it have self leveling bucket?

Yes it has the valve

I would pull the valve apart and see if anything is stuck or holding it open.

According to JDparts.com there are no service parts furnished for these relief valves.

No the hydraulic pressure has not been checked. Im not sure what valve controls the tractor has. There are 6 normal female connections and one smaller female connection on the valve body that all the hoses from the loader hook into. The tractor just has the normal john deere loader joy stick with the graple lever. Yes it does have a self leveling bucket.

Picture is worth many words. I'll suggest to temporarily plumb around(by-pass) that relief valve and carefully operate loader.

I would still take it apart and see if anything is holding it in the relieved position or if it need to be freed up as in rust or corrosion.

No the hydraulic pressure has not been checked. Im not sure what valve controls the tractor has. There are 6 normal female connections and one smaller female connection on the valve body that all the hoses from the loader hook into. The tractor just has the normal john deere loader joy stick with the graple lever. Yes it does have a self leveling bucket.

Any possibility some of the six larger hoses got mixed up? The small female connector is the drain to sump for the relief valve.
