Good Morning! 50 F @ 6:00 AM. Sunny. High 74F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.
Drew, you are lucky indeed that she was open enough with you that you could part as friends. My ex couldn't be honest with herself, let alone me. A friend had warned me about "credibility issues", but love is blind...
In trying to upgrade my cell phone yesterday, I learned that Verizon Wireless will waive their requirement for my Social Security Number if I FAX them a copy of my driver's license and a utility bill. Once again, it just took getting to the right person to make it happen. Hopefully today "Robert" will confirm receipt of the FAXes and we can conclude the transaction.
Also got the truck unloaded yesterday. That was the easy part. Now I have to find room to put all those "treasurers" I dragged home. :confused2: They come in all sizes:

Both of these came via West Virginia, from Grandpa's house. I remember playing safe cracker as a child, but I never saw the cards until this last trip back to Ohio.
The truck itself has an appointment with a mechanic for Monday morning. Now I need to get the little Yamaha running again so I'll have a ride back from town. Just needs a new battery, and one is on the charger as I write this.
During the month of March we got enough rain to nearly fill Lake Oroville, enough so that they opened the spillway last week to let some out. Apparently the authorities are afraid that there won't be enough room to prevent flooding if the snowmelt happens to quickly. Yet the drought maps are still showing this area in the Extreme range. Apparently it'll take a few years to recharge the groundwater, and we're being urged to continue our conservation measures. I bet the authorities won't get much cooperation on that one.
All that rain came with some big winds, one gust topping out at 47 MPH. The 30' x 30' tarp that used to cover my firewood pallets was in shreds when I saw it yesterday.

Enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio last evening, and the contrast in lake level from before I left and now is astonishing. The fishermen are already taking advantage, and I suppose once warmer weather sets in the skiers will be back, too.
Got word late last night that the old man had passed. Not at all unexpected, and a blessing that his decline was rapid and painless. In his 87 years he covered a lot of ground: he was a Marine during the Korean War, had two great wives, built precision machines for an elevator company, drove some beautiful cars, gathered some great hunting and marksmanship trophies, and lived out his last years in a wonderful home in a caring community. We should all be so fortunate.
