I guess green bean seeds.... who knows what today's youth would misuse them for!

How old do you have to be to buy one? Was he afraid you were going to make a bomb with it?

What kind of Beans were they?

I had the same thing happen last winter when I bought a can of spray paint. I thought that was a bit ridiculous.

They carded me for something or other the last time I was there too. I'm only 68, yah think? They also card me everytime I buy cigarettes at Rite Aid. I guess common sense is no longer in style or maybe they just don't want to accused of profiling us old folks. Ah that's why they still shake down old ladies and nuns at the airports.

Heck, if "common sense" was prevalent, you would know to not buy cigarettes!! ha ha ha

I guess the way to end that absurdity is to just walk out after giving them a few choice words about being an idiot who can't tell a 60 year old from an 18 year old. If that is store policy, I would just tell them I will do my shopping elsewhere till policy changes or they find some more intelligent checkers.
I am just too damned old to put up with unnecessary BS anymore. There are lots of folks willing to take your money for goods without the BS

I agree, it's almost stupid beyond belief. I've just acquiesced to the new way of doing transactions. I take a deep breath and tell myself " well, at least he/she is working".

Same thing here when I purchased some chain lube at TSC this week. I think I'm going to start giving them the wrong birth date. 2/29/1901 sounds like a good place to start.

I wouldn't be too hard on the cashier. It is probably store or corporate policy. I've been carded on paint before. 65 years old.

We (my nephew, age 50 and I age 68) got carded at a sports bar in Auburn Hills, Michigan last summer whilst the ladies were shopping.
Apparently the place got caught the week before serving under-aged, so they had to check every patron... dead or alive. :confused3:

didn't know they carded for chemical purchases too...

I think the cash register computer automatically demands an age verification for certain items. Then the clerk has to ask or be reprimanded for not following policy.

Don't blame the clerk.

I refuse to give them any peronal information. I tell them to get the manager and I just stand there until they do. Manager is going to get tired of that pretty soon.

Now thats funny ^^^

Don't blame the clerk who is following policy to keep thier job.

Same here, I set two cans of spray paint on the counter at TSC yesterday & the clerk asked my birth date (I'm 65 & show it), she was probably older than I am & has worked there for several years. I told her to keep it & I'd buy my paint elsewhere. She made up a date. Only reason I was getting it there was that Menard's only had two cans, I wanted four. Like stated above, don't blame the clerk, it's not their doing!

I won't buy spray paint at Home Depot for the same reason! Obviously, these places don't trust their employees!

Last week I bought groceries including beer - at a store I've only visited a couple of times over several years. I was born during WWII. I used my new style chipped credit card.

The clerk didn't card me but the register receipt showed my correct DOB.

DOB must be encoded in the card.
