Good Morning! 50F @ 5:00 AM. Sunny. High 72F. Winds light and variable.

Made it back home in one shot yesterday with just two stops for fuel. I80 west out of Rawlins was open, with packed snow and ice that had been plowed and sanded. Caught up to a semi and just followed him to his exit, then followed another that was getting on at that entrance ramp. Figured these folks know the road conditions and I was right. Saw one goose neck house trailer on its side, but that was the only accident in the 150 miles to where the road finally thawed out. It was wet from there to Salt Lake City, then dry for the rest of the trip. Very happy to be home, and that I don't have to put up with that weather anymore.

Noticed a screeching and clunking coming from under the hood as I went down the driveway, and I suspect that the harmonic damper or belt tensioning pulley is on the way out. Will look at it later this morning, but both are apparently common failures at this mileage (160K miles). No rain in the forecast for at least a week, so it won't be much of an inconvenience to be motorcycle mounted for errands (the cupboards are bare here except for the milk I brought home in the cooler ;)

Ron, you have seen my Dad's older Ford tractor 45HP. Do you think his FEL will lift the same as my tractor? The 18'cattle guard and 2 cement beams at a ton each are being delivered this weekend and I am debating wether to drive my tractor (20 miles RT) over there.

[QUOTE=rlgustafson;4416069]Buckeye;

I've had good results with Bonide Products. Not as cheap as the crap they sell at big box stores but it works.

A lot of the Bonide products are at least quasi organic, whatever that means, so I use them too.
2,4D seems to me like crack, once you start to use it, you see it works really well, so you really want to keep using it.
But what are we doing to Mother Earth? Environment first. Remember, it's on our watch.
Farmer is a real expert on this and clearly knows what he's talking about, as are a few others. You can hear the training in the posts.
I'm not...just a sucker for anything that says organic.

But I'm not a purist, I use Roundup on my driveway and I have weedkiller put on my lawn professionally, with the lowest toxicity we could find. Otherwise these alien plants literally march out of the woods up through my lawn, crabgrass, weeds of every type, it's a jungle out there. Doing nothing is not the answer.

I do have to wonder if the huge yield improvements enabled by modern chemistry and genetic engineering have long term consequences we just don't understand yet.
Time will tell. Some farmers like "our" Farmer are up to date and pay attention to proper application techniques. I'm not confident all other farmers do.
Nor lawn applicators. Nor..., and it all winds up in the Chesapeake Bay and the Pamlico Sound.
Evolution, not revolution, but let's not leave a big mess on our watch.

oops, fell off the soapbox. Darn that floor is hard.

It will be close. I would bring your tractor to be safe. Also depends on what they deliver the beams on. If it is a low-boy you may be OK.

55 and raining here, off and on. Supposed to clear up, then T storms this evening. Going to get my mower deck, then lunch with a neighbor. Then back to put the deck back together. I still need to paint a couple small pieces, but I can get started. I have all new belts to install also.

Have a good one!

Ron, you sound like a happy retired guy getting up late and just enjoying the world. Marvelous.
sorry your head is clogged, is it a specific allergy you know of?

I'm back on antihistimines at night, eyes itchy, so much
pollen out, after four or five dry days, one can see yellow clouds blowing by. Gets over everything including my porches which is a major hassle
keeping clean. You can't sit down anywhere, everything is covered in yellow. Must be amazing in Larro's grove of concentrated pines. Of course some of mine are really big and really tall and have zillions of those balls of exploding yellow pollen. Oversexed...why in the world would a plant need to douse the entire neighborhood with what has to be something reproductive. One seriously strong need to reproduce I guess...

RS, I am glad I don't have your neighbors! We had a couple of break ins in the area, a few years ago. I bought a basic ADP system, I think the little placard out front is 80% of the value. One of the break ins was due to a local kid, he went to jail, for stealing friends m a bunch of folks. One pair of middle school kids got caught, but after they did 42 break ins. Why their parents never questioned their massive accumulation of "stuff" escapes me. Those 2 were a few miles away, never hit my area.

The other break in was drug related, but I personally think it was a fake.

Good luck!

I have the same thing here, at times the wind blowing thru the pines turns into a yellow cloud. I seem to have switched allergies, when I was young, I was allergic to bees, now I seem to get the sniffles when it is cool and damp, allergy to some fungus, I suppose.

Good luck!

56.1F, cloudy with some light drizzle at 09:45 ... went back to bed after I woke up last night ... decided two hours was not quite enough.

Didn't make it back up to the shop last night after dinner or after I woke up.

Most likely will work on grapple today.

I'm back on antihistamines at night, eyes itchy, so much

Not sure which pollen is getting me. Lots of wind stirring it up along with dust and whatever is in it. We are having a cool spell that has made things worse. Antihistamines work at night. A prescription med during the day. Just do not feel like doing much. Well not much to do anyways. Warm weather will be back tomorrow.

RS, I am glad I don't have your neighbors!
Actually, it hasn't been too bad here ... our local community always has the lowest number of crimes reported in the small weekly paper out of all the surrounding communities, if you can believe that. Seems like most of what gets reported are domestic disputes, DUI/intoxication and the like ... comparably little in the way of burglaries and theft, although there is usually some.

The neighbor lady who told my wife about the four-wheeler theft, apparently said she liked someone up the street for the theft. New folks that just bought a home that was possibly foreclosure.

Whoever it was, pushed it out of the guys back yard up to our "road" - which is actually our driveway (we're the only ones on it)

We had a couple of break ins in the area, a few years ago. I bought a basic ADP system, I think the little placard out front is 80% of the value.
Yup ... I need to invest in some stickers that I can stick on the doors/windows around here.

One of the break ins was due to a local kid, he went to jail, for stealing friends m a bunch of folks. One pair of middle school kids got caught, but after they did 42 break ins.
Good grief ...

Why their parents never questioned their massive accumulation of "stuff" escapes me.
Quite possible that it's a family enterprise ...

We had that here, about 30 or 40 years ago ... they broke into the shop through the only window that was on the backside of the building (masonry block) and got Mom and Pops Cub Cadet. The whole family was involved ... in fact, I had gone to school with the daughter. Needless to say after that incident Pops had the window removed and the opening blocked up.

Those 2 were a few miles away, never hit my area.
Hope it stays that way.

The other break in was drug related, but I personally think it was a fake.

Good luck!
Thanks.

It used to be that sufferers of allergies were recommended to move to AZ. Not sure if that is true anymore. Ron, hope you get better soon. We are having post oak and huisache pollen clouds right now. My eyes are more bloodshot than usual.

A bit busy at work right now on another custom fuel cell.

Good morning all. 56F this morning, partly cloudy and light breezes. Forecast for clouds leaving, 74F and moderate winds from north. Billing spreadsheet untouched yesterday so rapidly becoming a priority. Mostly putter jobs, researching thinning St Augustine grass (septic drain field really thick  ) and couple of consulting items.

Good morning, Warm at 64 degrees with sun and wind. Had rain overnight.
Not on any antihistimines yet but the tree pollen is starting to get high.
I also use roundup on our lane and around the shed. I have tried 2-4-D in the yard but with this forest clay and low sun the only thing that grows well is moss.
Back in the 80s I was a plant manager for a Farm Service Co. for 3 years. We supplied fertilizer and chemicals to licensed farmers and did custom applications of both. At that time the herbicides were not as concentrated as they are today and you had to mix gallons and gallons of herbicide to water to do a field. Today it is ounces to gallons and gallons of water. Even then we spent a lot of time schooling to apply the chemicals and you had to have a license to do it or buy any. Today it seems anyone can get their hands on some wicked stuff and do what they want. That is scary.

Good scouting trip. Checked two main fields - 4 gobblers and 13 hens...and heard two other gobblers back in the woods. Only picked up 2 ticks on my hike...and the dogwoods and azaleas are blooming there, and the wild yellow jasmine was fragrant.

Drew, correct - shotgun with special birdshot.

Funny, all the talk of herbicides - I stopped on the way home and picked up a 2.5 gallon jug of 41% glyphosate - $31.95 - cheapest I've seen in a while. That's the only herbicide I use and very sparingly...and no pesticides.

Welcome TNTurf.
