Good Morning! 56F @ 9:15 AM. A mix of clouds and sun early followed by cloudy skies this afternoon. High 63F. Winds SW at 15 to 25 mph.
Tried to replace a bulb in the hanging lamp over the kitchen table last night, but couldn't get the new bulb to screw into the socket. Tried moving the one next to the bad one into the socket and it fit fine. Tried the new bulb in the other socket and it's a no-go. The replacement came out of a drawer in the kitchen, and I didn't know it was there when I purchased another new bulb at HD last week. So hopes of returning that five dollar bulb vanished when I broke the seal on the package, but it screwed right in and fixed the problem. That's typical of how things are going here. I replaced the water heater yesterday, but for some reason couldn't drain the old one. Managed to get a foot of wire up through the drain valve to clear it, and even flushed some water out the drain valve while it was still connected to the water service. So I just accepted that it would be a bit heavy moving it, and went outside to get a dolly to help. Both tires were flat on the dolly, so I went into the garage to use one of two air compressors there. Plugged in the one easiest to get to and it ran, but the pressure came up very slowly. That's when I noticed air leaking past the flapper valve on one of the cylinders, something I don't have time to deal with but that is a simple repair as Speedaire parts are still available at Grainger. Anyway, got the tires up to the recommended 30 psi, then managed to get the dolly under the water tank. But couldn't get it to tip over far enough to roll it. I was able to get it just off the floor, and found that the wheels would move toward me about a foot before it all went back down to the ground. So that's how I moved it, far enough to get it out of the way to put the new one in. I'll get a neighbor to give me a hand with it later in the week to get it out of here.
On today's agenda I'll finish with the flag pole mount I cemented in two days ago, another goat rope. I'll also try to lift two corners of the deck that have settled and shim them up with a brick or two so things sit level again. But before that I need to replace the rusty drain fitting and strainer in the kitchen sink and replace all the batteries in the smoke detectors. Better than replacing the smoke detectors as I first thought I'd need to, because the wires for the detectors were hanging out of the ceiling mounts and the missing detectors were found at the bottom of a closet. I keep telling myself to take a deep breath and keep chipping away...
