Currently have Kubota L4600HST, Kubota M7040, Kubota M8540, two Massey 265's, Massey 230, ...... Had Long 510, Mahindra 3510.Ford 4000, Deere 4230.
Was moving some loose dirt with the loader today and noticed a drip on the front bucket curl cylinder. Thinking had a leak at the fitting. Stopped to ck it out and found the gland nut on the cylinder had split at the notch for the spanner wrench.
Ive worked on heavy equipment and hydraulic cylinders for 25 yrs and never seen a gland nut split like this one. Tractor has 200 hrs on it. Will post some pictures when I get it off.

Only time I've ever seen one do that is when the piston travels too far and hits inside with force on the nut.

ditto

Does your loader frame have mechanical stops to prevent bucket over travel....or is the cylinder the limiting factor?

Were you pushing like a bulldozer with the bucket curled all the way down?

If no to either of the above, I'd say it was a defective part. Is it still under warranty?

Has the factory bucket stops in place with no damage/wear to them. Warranty is out by about 6 months. Was using bucket like shovel. Im pretty easy on my equipment and dont abuse it. When I get new gland on I will ck the stops to see if bucket is actually touching them when fully curled under, or if piston is being stopped by the gland. If thats the case I guess will add a thicker stop to it. Will also have to check overall length of the cylinders when fully extended. The Rod on one may be shorter than the other and piston hitting gland before bucket stops. Most all loader/backhoe etc cylinders have adjustable rod ends to compensate for just that reason.
