1995/1996 time frame, I had major reconstruction. One six tooth bridge (the middle two missing), one bridge over a single missing tooth, two teeth joined by caps on both sides of the lowers to stabilize a bridge, all but one capped. Cost around 20k plus the yearly 1,500 deductables from 95 and 96 which is why I timed it that way.

Figured I was good to go except for checkups. Less than two years later, I had to have the six tooth bridge reworked for two root canals. If I recall correctly, I have at least eight root canals now. Those are part of my problems. One was a front tooth and just kind of turned to punk. One I could not keep the cap on. Several that are loose.

Dental, general eyecare, and hearing aids, insurance does not go to far if at all.

No kidding. My root canal was $500 and my implant was $500 and that was 15-20 years ago. Last crown I had done was around $700.

Yep,, I was quoted by phone $750.00-$1500.00 Mine was of course the $1500.00 implant..

Others quoted $2250.00-$2500.00..With no guarantee they will take..That's why I had to have 1 of mine installed twice !

Old Thread
Getting my first implant in 3 months. I had the tooth pulled yesterday. It was possibly my first crown and on a molar. My original dentist retired several years ago. The guy that took over his practice jacked the rates up 40% and I couldn't help but notice all my old dentist' help had left. So I tried this lady who's husband worked for a year or so at my old dentist. She pointed out some decay at the bottom of the crown but seemed more fixated on other teeth. A nice lady but slow and constantly having to move my head she didn't instill confidence. So I found a replacement dentist about halfway to my property. Well that gold crown pulled off a few weeks ago and lots of decay under it. I would have considered making a road trip to try Los Algodones Mx but with the border shut down plus I've heard of some having problems with implants done in MX.

I think I have 6-7 crowns. 1 is on an old tooth that they removed, put a titanium post into my jaw, and put the old tooth with crown back on that. Seems to be holding up pretty well. Probably 15 years or more. I have had a couple crowns pull off over the years. Starburst candy! :licking:

The night before it happened I was on my way home from a day trip to my property. I grabbed some caramel M&M's but no problems encountered. A couple hours later I was eating some soft food as a snack and when done it felt like I had a high tooth or debris stuck in tooth. The next day I was eating and still felt like I had a high spot when oops what's this?

I lost an argument with a two way door which cost me 6 teeth, implants $7k each so went a titanium plate, excellent fit but avoid bread with poppy seeds, feels like a load of gravel under the plate and about the only thing that gets in there.

I decided to go the full implant route..
I just got them uncovered & have to go for the impressions Tuesday for the final set..
They were nice enough to take between $27-$30,000.00 from me.. wasnt that nice of'm.??
I havent eaten anything "solid" since Nov.2019.. & I was "supposed to" have the final set in March but the Virus had ALL the dentists closed for a month or 2..
The "DAY OF" my appt. the office called to tell me about the closure.. & they had no idea WHEN they would open back up..
THANKFULLY they were only closed 2 month.. I'm so close to tearing thru a 32oz T-bone.!!! Lol

I went for my appt. & they said, "alot has changed since the last time u were here"..
I HAD TO talk w/ the finance dept before I was "worked on"..lol
The lady pulled up my "work order" & said, "heres the new procedure work order"..
ALMOST 3K MORE than originally worked up.!!!
I said, "my original paperwork is 3K LESS than this."!!!! Thank GOD I brought it w/ me.!!!
I said, I understand about inflation but this is ridiculous.!!!
She said, "lemme see if the Dr. will "honor" this.. {i had ran to my truck & got the orig. p. work}
I said, :HE SHOULD.. HE'S THE ONE THAT WORKED IT UP.!!
She comes back & says, he said YES.. & looks at the girl doing the impressions & says, "U can proceed"..
"I think" that "THEY think" they got u by the "short & curlys".. your sitting there w/ NO TEETH & you'll pay anything to be able to eat again..??
I wonder how many people they pulled THAT on.??
Good thing I was in Charleston, where theres a dentist on every street corner.!!!
I would have definitely gotten up & walked out over 3 THOUSAND MORE DOLLARS..

Well I have full upper and partial lower.
IMHO it all depends on quality workmanship and experience.

Mine fit so well that I enjoy corn on the cob and steaks any time just like when the chompers were all natural.
Mine are going on 13 years now.
OH, and I don't use any adhesives either.

Last visit they tried to sell me on a new set claiming age and wear @ $1000. (Cdn)
LOL, no thanks. I'm fine.

Now I do know one thing, there are different qualities of materials they can use.
In fact they made me a set of 'temporary' that is much less durable that he said to keep for whenever I needed to make up a new set.
Sadly that dendrologist had an accident and no longer can practice.

LOL, best yet I traded renovation work for my dentures. A real win/win.

I went threw the denture thing (lost at least 20 pounds because of the dentures could not eat anything but soup). . . I now have full implants upper and lower . . . cost . . . was not cheep . . . but I can eat my steaks and whatever. If you can afford it, do it.

Funny u should mention the "fit"..
These temps were relined at my last visit..wow what a difference..
I "usta" have to wear 2 "sea bond pads" on the uppers just to get them to stay in, before the implants were uncovered..
NOW I dont use anything.!!
It wouldnt have been like that except that the dentist office closed due to the virus..

Speaking of tight fit--------------
one time I had so much difficulty removing my uppers that they finally popped lose and flew into toilet bowl.

They spent the night in an alcohol bath!

I was tested for implants on the lower but I don't have enough bone. They mentioned bone grafts... Nah, I don't think so.

/ Dentures anyone? #37
QRT.. the graft is common.. they did both the upper & lower on me..
They made me pay for it up front & then filed it thru my dental insurance.. some pay for it & others dont..
I got a real nice 3000.00 check from my surgeons office about 2 weeks later.. I guess the ins. paid for it.??
The graft was painless, seeing I was knocked out.. They {my guy} knocks u out for the extractions & implants..
I actually went to a facial/dental SURGICAL OFFICE to have mine taken out & the bone graft & implant install..
My DENTIST wanted to do it but would only do 1 at a time, uppers, wait 4 months, then the lowers, wait 4 months..
AND they DIDNT knock u out.!!!
I wanted that "after pain" ALL AT ONCE {both upper & lower} & dam sure didnt wanna be awake for it..!!

/ Dentures anyone? #38
For a variety of reasons they had to pull my top teeth for a full denture.*
They did so in all of about 15 mins (9 if I recall) with no pain at all. (well I did feel each 'tug/twist/yank' but painless.)
Never even took an aspirin.
Next a quickly made temporary set of chompers while the real set was being made at an outside lab.
I only was an a soup died for all of a day, that was ,like, 12-13 years ago and still eat whatever I wish, including corn on the cob.

*simply no way of anchoring a partial plus their bad experiences with full implants.

Seem to recall the cost of extraction was actually more then the cost of the new chompers.

I had plenty of bone, my sister had to have that though . . .

I need to get a new set, my 20 year old ones are getting quite worn.
You said they wanted $3000 more if you don't mind what is a set going for now?
My last set was several $100 don't recall .

Never mind I read back through this thread and saw that you were getting implants,
ouch on the price.
