Another clothing caught in PTO shaft death....

I think it is a good idea to keep posting these accidents, we sometimes forget how dangerous this stuff can be and this is a good reminder.

I have PTO shafts with no guards. I just don't go near them, when running, EVER! How difficult is this? .

More than you might think or realize. That's why they're called accidents.
This guy probably worked with this machine dozens if not 100 times.

So true Gary I have a neighbour who was using a post hole digger a job he has done hundreds of times and he walked up to the rear of the tractor at the side to lift the digger up as he had finished the hole however a gust of wind came up and blew his drizabone coat flap towards the pto and yep he was unlucky enough it for it to get caught and pulled him into the shaft, he was very lucky in the fact that he had idled the tractor back and the tractor actually stalled not before he got a few nasty bruises out of it though. We all think it can't happen to us as we are so careful but somedays your luck is just not with you. I work at a farm machinery repair shop and I will not let a pto out of our shop without an operative cover there is a great one on the market here ( I think you guy's can get them over there ) made by a company called Bare Co if you go to their site you will see it ( I have no affiliations with them other than I use their products I just think it is a great idea and gets rid of some excuses for not having a guard)

Ok , well you're good then! I plan on NEVER "EVER" getting ran over or rolling my tractor either... Again

Rolling a tractor is a different matter entirely! This is either about someone incapable of monitoring their own actions and environment or somehow believing that a rotating shaft poses no threat to them. These might well be the same people I see working with their fingers within inches of a table saw blade. Good for them, have at it. Not me.

Its about some poor guy that slipped up and died in front of his family. Doesn't mean he was incapable or in denial about the dangers. He just slipped up. It happens.

It would not have happened if he had excercised caution and common sense. I am not talking about how sad the outcome. I thought this thread was about the dangers of PTO shafts. I am talking about the probable reason for the death. Why not deal with the REAL reason, instead of just coming, once again to a conclusuion that everybody now needs yet more intrusive safety systems to protect them from themselves.
