Hi, again (if you saw me over in the introductions thread):

I've got a little situation that's gnawing at me. We've got a 1958 JD 620 and are ready to purchase a brush hog, box cutter and possibly a 2 bottom plow. My question is how do folks go about getting these items home? We have a pickup and a trailer available to us, but it's the lifting that I'm concerned about. I'm assuming these items would be more than a 2-man job?

Thanks for your insight,

Christine

Does seller have a tractor with front loader, & a set of forks preferably. Without that, a few come-alongs, lots of planks, some big pry bars, binders and lots of chain.
...well, chain and binders in both cases I guess.

Welcome to TBN..................

New attachments - store has a fork lift to load.
Used attachments - I ask seller if they have a way to load if I buy. If not, I can bring my tractor to load if I buy. Usually the seller has a way to load for you.
As a last resort I have a tilt bed trailer with a winch that can drag the attachment onto the trailer.
That's why I have a tractor to do the lifting for me.

If you buy from a place of business they will be able to load it on whatever you have that it'll fit on. To unload at home, before the skid steer and loader days, I used a boom pole and still do sometimes. Most of what I use weights between approx 200 - 800 lbs and I can carry it on a 5 x 10 trailer. Sometimes it leans up on one of the side rails but it don't hurt anything if you watch how you load and unload.

If I'm buying somewhere that I have to load I carry a portable "A" frame and a chain hoist to load. I still do this as it's easier than carrying a machine to load it with.. Hope this helps

Two man job: lift one end at a time. Three man job (include the seller) even better. I often use the tiedown strap crank as a winch. Plank(s) for a ramp. To unload, well, its farm equipment.....

Every time I've bought a used attachment from a person they've had a tractor and I've asked them to help load before agreeing to buy. Depending on your trailer or truck you may need to check heights to make sure they can actually load it (I've had a few close calls getting over the trailer sides). For new attachments the store has agreed to load them for me and usually do so with a forklift.

Some can be lifted by a few people, but with a 500 lb attachment I wouldn't recommend it... If you do it that way watch fingers.

No loader on the tractor?
If not ensure the seller will have them assembled and ready to go and load them onto the trailer in a manner that you can back onto the trailer with the tractor and use the 3 point to lift and drive right off. You might need to be a little creative and unload them at a spot that you will clear everything depending on the trailer but this usually is the most pain free method when no loader is available
You can also use a good tree and a chain hoist or a beam in a garage or barn

I have a 300kg Flail mower coming on a truck. I only have a FEL and it won't go high enough to lift the mower from the truck if I use chains.
So, I am getting it delivered to my mates farm down the road. He has a fork that will lift it off the truck and onto my 8x4 trailer.
Then I can lift it off the lower trailer with my FEL with chains. Problem solved. It is coming about 1586 klm and cost to deliver is $277 which I thought was pretty fair.

Most of my implements I buy new from a dealer 6 miles down the road. I just road the tractor to him and hook up the implement an drive home. I am looking at a used flail mower 100 miles away, for that I will take my trailer to it, they will load and I will unload at home with my loader.

How long is the trailer? If long enough load the box cutter with the 3ph to the front then hook the mower to the 3ph and drive the tractor onto the trailer.
If the seller has these implements then most likely has the means to load them. Make a call and ask if he/she can help load.
